Who do you bank with and how do you feel about it?
We are currently with Watermark Credit Union and have loved them, however, they have just announced a merger with Sound Credit Union was approved. We area little concerned that the merger will bring changes and we might want to look elsewhere for our banking business. I have heard that BECU is good, but not specifics.
The main things that we would like are good, easy online banking, free checking, a kid's savings account with a high interest rate, a lot of locations or a partnership with other banks so we can use their atms without fees. I would PREFER a local bank. We were with WAMU and when they switched to Chase, we just couldn't take it anymore. So yeah, Chase is out.
I'd appreciate hearing where you bank and why you like it or don't.

Currently BOA and I hate it. I want to leave so bad, but I'm too lazy to do it.
I was banking with BECU for about 20 years, but switched to BOA because H didn't want to change his direct deposits and auto bill pays. Ideally, I'd like to go back to BECU. They were awesome.
here's my background: i'm not loyal to my bank, i'm loyal to high interest rates and incentives. i'm not worried about fees if they can be waived with minimums, i'm not worried about ATM fees or locations, because i pretty much never use them. i do 99.999999% of my banking online.
my banking is complicated.
i'm currently with BECU for my *main* bank. they have the highest interest rate for their checking and savings account up to $500. after $500, it's comparative to other banks.
my paycheck goes directly into BECU, with some of it going into a CHASE and an even smaller portion into a KEY BANK account. i use CHASE and KEYBANK because they offered me $$ for opening an account and keeping it open for a short period of time. ($100 for for CHASE, $150 for KEY). almost immediately after the money is deposited, i transfer the money into my BECU account. i'm near the end of both those cycles and will be closing the accounts soon.
i recently closed my USBANK account for similar reasons as above ($75) but i need to open a new one soon. their SMART savings account is really good.
i also have an HSBC online account which i only have $5 in to keep it open right now. i keep this one because they allow for free foreign currency exchange for their account holders, as well as they had the lowest cashier check fee (useful when we bought a house).
so remember how BECU only has good interest rate for the first $500? everything over $500, we move the money into an online-only BofA account which currently has the highest interest rate we could find...i think it was 1.6 or something.

jumped ship to the new and improved nest. back to TB for baby boards.
I've always had an acct with BOA and H has always been with WAMU/Chase, so we got our joint account through them.
I hate both of them... well Chase moreso. I plan on switching to BECU, but I've been a lazy a$$.
This is good info. I am willing to do the work necessary to get more moolah from the banks, but I'm bad at the research.

I have banked with BECU since I was a little girl. Never had an issue. They've always been great. BECU also offers a higher interest rate on kids savings accounds. Since you are currently with Watermark I think it will be an easy switch for you. I have heard from other Watermark members that BECU's online banking is significantly better than there is. I have also heard BECU doesn't charge for a couple things that Watermark does (like overdraft protection and external transfers).
I got H to switch to BECU shortly before we got married from B of A. He loves it. He was a loyal B of A guy, but after he switched he realized how much money he was actually wasting with them.

i sign up for all the junk mail i can....i'm the opposite of most people. this way i get all the coupons, ads, flyers, everything i can for good deals. sifting through junk mail is worth it to me to find a deal.
i also listen to commercials on the radio and watch them on tv (h flips through them and doesn't listen!). that's where i get most the info for the bank incentives.
it becomes a headache when you're transferring money from bank to bank, but it's only for about 6 months at a time..and usually the minimum is about $100 in the accounts, so you can look at it as a 100% interest rate. totally worth it.

We switched to BECU about 2 years ago and are very happy with them. We have had no problems. We just keep the under $500 in savings there and have other savings elsewhere.
I used to have Wamu/Chase and don't like them at all. We have Chase for our mortgage and I just don't trust them. I sent a mortgage payment and it just sat there, as received but they didn't disburse the funds to my account. It was so frustrating and when I called, they had no idea what was going on.
BECU. Nothing ever goes wrong, customer service is easily/quickly reached and they are always friendly and helpful. And their ATMs take pictures of deposits so there are no lost deposits.
BOA is called Bank of Crap in our house, with good reason. We haven't banked there for a long time.
There is a CU location near our house and we used to make deposits there. They were a different CU before, bought out by Sound CU a couple years ago. We have had no trouble with them; the only reason we don't go there for deposits is b/c depositing at a different CU prevents being able to look up past deposits (you can access the total amount, but not the individual amounts or other information) without working with the bank at which the deposit was made. I had to do this and while SCU was helpful, prompt and friendly, i felt bad b/c they don't get any business out of it. Anyway, they seem fine in my limited experience.
