banking

We have an account at a credit union in Austin. It's not convenient, but my parents and grandparents have accounts there, and my parents sign on our account, so when we're out of the country, it's easy for them to manage our money. Also, they always have great interest rates on loans. Both of my car loans have been through them.

Rodgers had an account at Guaranty when we got married, and we kept it for local banking needs. We've each had jobs that wouldn't do direct deposit, so it was beneficial to be able to drop our checks off at the bank on pay day rather than mailing them to Austin. Right now, I have no paychecks, and Rodgers' employer doesn't do direct deposit. Compass bought Guaranty; our account stayed the same. But now, they're taking away all of our benefits (earning interest, no charge and rebates for other banks' ATMs...) and will be charging $11/month since we don't have direct deposit.

Anyway, I'm ready for a new bank that has a branch in town. So tell me about your bank.

Re: banking

  • Sorry, I'm not much help.  I'm with Navy Federal, and wouldn't change for anything.  I PPH them.  But, unless you are or are related to a Service member, you can't open an account.
  • we have TDBank - from what I understand they are a New England bank and are slowly working their way south.

they are open 363 days a year - they only close for Christmas Day and New Years Day -- they were originally Commerce Bank then they merged with TD North of Canada.

  • I use Sovereign for my personal account. Not sure if they're near you? I like them fine, have been with them since I was in college.

For our joint accounts and Ava's savings, we use Citizens. I also like them.

  • We bank with Wells Fargo, which recently acquired Wachovia. Having worked for both banks, I hated them as an employee. However, I love Wells as a customer. The accounts work great for us, love the online banking, and DH had his student loans there in college. They don't rebate other banks ATMs, unless they happen to be running a special account promotion. We do earn points by using our credit card and debit card with them, which I redeem for cash or gift cards. I think we also earn interest in our account, which is a step up from free checking and the only requirement is a monthly auto-draft into our savings of $25. Plus, I love that they're nationwide, therefore making them travel friendly.
  • We have PNC Bank.

I don't love any banks so I'm not very helpful.  Suze Orman suggests using credit unions.  We had a credit union at my husbands job, but found it tough that there were limited ATM's to get our money out.

  • We had Chase and just switched to Capital One.  Chase got rid of their rewards points on checking accounts.  So, we moved banks because we hated Chase anyway.  CO gave us $200 for opening our accounts there (checking, savings, DH business accounts).  They don't have as many branches as Chase and the ATM's don't accept check deposits like Chase but I'll get over it.

We already have over 5,000 points in less than a month and we're excited about that.  They have online banking too which is convenient.

    PCOS and Endo

Ovarian drilling and endo removed 1/3/12
    BFP - 3/27/12
    Beta's 11, 14, 57, 637, 2800
Sono showed no baby and teeny tiny sac. Waiting to M/C naturally.

  • We've used Regions for a few years now and have had no issues or complaints. Our Savings is with Discover Online - they have had the best interest rate, although it's still peanuts.
