health concern..could there be something in our home?
We just moved to the Alexandria Va area from Florida...we are renting a house built in 1942. We have only been here one week and my son is coughing, sneezing and has had three bloddy noses, my baby is also sneezing with a runny nose as well as my husband. The owners put in brand new carpet in the basement (which is where they spend a lot of time) and the rest of the house (except for the upstairs) is wood. Any ideas what could be causing this?
Re: health concern..could there be something in our home?
Strong allergy to either weed pollen (just starting to pick up now) or mold (according to weather.com, the levels have been moderate to high for the last week)?
Welcome to the area. I hope it gets better for you and your family.
I agree it could be allergies. I never had them growing up until I moved here and they are absolutely dreadful now.
welcome!
I agree with the allergies diagnosis. Also it is a little humid here but much less so than Florida. That might be the culprit for the bloddy noses as my husband gets them constantly.
Welcome to the area and I hope everyone starts feeling better!
if you have concerns, especially with the kiddos, go to the dr.
i'm from FL & agree that allergies can be worse here than there. i also live in a home older than yours &, assuming it's been well-maintained & no one is chewing on painted surfaces, it shouldn't be affecting your health.
I too am guessing allergies. It could be seasonal like others have suggested or it could be something in the house.
Did the prior owners have dogs or cats? Animal dander can get in the carpet, the air ducts, and even in the paint on the walls. Even if your kids do not have a reaction by touching an animal, living in a home where one has been can be different. You might try getting the air ducts in the home cleaned to see if that helps. I would also wipe down all of the walls. And like a pp said - look for water and moisture - especially in the basement. You may need a dehumidifier down there.
