Re: Babes with Toddler
Do you have issues with separation anxiety?
In a word, no. It actually makes me kind of sad! We left Natalie in the nursery on the cruise ship. The second time we took her, all the other kids were screaming to get out and she was screaming to get in. She didn't even notice us leaving, so I said "bye" to her, and her expression was like "yeah sure, see ya!"
Does your little one seem to prefer one of you over the other? Does this change?
No, not really. She has moments where she asks for one of us specifically, but it's about equal.
What word or phrase has your little one recently picked up/started using?
She's doing sentences which I'm so happy about! Today she said, "me go watch Elmo" and then "we no outside, rain." However, she pronounces fork as f-u-c-k which proved to be interesting on our vacation at dinner.
How do you get in cuddle time?
Every afternoon we have a relaxation period where we do a quiet activity or watch a short program, and we cuddle during that time. Also during story time and after her bath.
Anything else you would like to share? I'm looking forward to fall fun this year!
We don't have any so far.
Does your little one seem to prefer one of you over the other? Does this change?
Most of the time it is me. If she hurt herself or is scared - me totally. I can calm her and make her happy so much quicker. For play time she likes daddy since he is goofy and he gets home later and she does not see him as much.
What word or phrase has your little one recently picked up/started using?
All Done. After nursing she sometimes says it. She says it 60% of the time after dinner then starts pushing her tray away.
How do you get in cuddle time?
Usually before bed if she allows it. Story time too. If she is exhausted sometimes watching a 20 min session of sprout or nick jr.

Do you have issues with separation anxiety?
Do I? No. As for her, sometimes. It's really hit or miss though. Usually she's fine if it's normal routine. Tuesdays and Fridays I leave for work and she waves from the window, but if I leave in the middle of a Saturday, she'll scream for a while.
Does your little one seem to prefer one of you over the other? Does this change?
Alex has always been a mama's girl. It was always me that she wanted, and H would mention occasionaly how he felt a little sad by that. Well, that all changed over the weekend. She only wanted him. Daddy had to get her milk, Daddy had to give her a ponytail, Daddy all day. He couldn't even go to the bathroom without her pounding on the door. All I could say is "you asked for it", with a big ol smile on my face as I peed in peace all weekend.
What word or phrase has your little one recently picked up/started using?
"Oh man!" while putting her hand to her forehead.
How do you get in cuddle time?
She will randomly come up to me with a big hug and just say "hi mama" makes my day. Otherwise I have to ask for hugs or kisses.
Anything else you would like to share?
Do you have issues with separation anxiety? A little, she has started crying when I leave her at daycare or at the gym daycare--they are shortlived. But its getting harder. I know she loves her teachers so I try to just do a quick goodbye and run.
Does your little one seem to prefer one of you over the other? Does this change?
She is a daddy's girl right now, I can spend all day with her and do all sorts of fun stuff, but when he walks in the door it is like I don't exist. And if we are all together she wants to be with him. It has been this way for awhile maybe 4-5 months now.
What word or phrase has your little one recently picked up/started using?
Look Look and pointing at everything.
How do you get in cuddle time?
The bedtime bottle and usually when we get home from daycare she just wants to be right by me.
Anything else you would like to share?
looks like she has finally figured out the eating thing, fingers still crossed. Not a lot of variety but she is definitely having meals.
What do you all do when they throw food over the side of the chair(tell me it is not just me)? Dh wants to give her a timeout but I think she is too little

Do you have issues with separation anxiety?
OMG yes! Not just from us but from his toys. There is a picture on FB of how night time is going, everything must go in the crib with him. The other night after his bath I could not take his towel away. . . playing with the next question, if DH leaves we cry/scream/pout for what seems like forever and distraction isn't working very well.

Does your little one seem to prefer one of you over the other? Does this change?
Zac seems to prefer DH, but there are times when Mommy wins too!
What word or phrase has your little one recently picked up/started using?
Ambulance is his latest word, even though it sounds more like Ambien...
How do you get in cuddle time?
Every morning I bring Zac into bed with us around 7. We lay there and watch the Disney Channel for 15-20 minutes together. Some nights I can get him to relax in a chair or bed with me right before night time.
Yay for eating. I hope it keeps up.
As for the throwing food, I ignored it. I would say "Don't throw your food please", but I didn't pick it up in front of her, and I wouldn't look at her after telling her not to do it. If H were home, we'd start a conversation, or I'd just go back to eating my own dinner. For us, she was looking for a reaction. If it kept up, I'd take the food away for a bit, then slowly give some back if she were still hungry. Thankfully Alex doesn't have eating issues so I had no problem calling dinner over and picking up everything whether she finished eating or not. I know it's harder to do that when eating is an issue.
We would say, "No, we don't throw our food," followed by encouraging "put the food in your mouth" statements. If it went on for a while and more food seemed to be going on the floor than in the mouth we'd just say, "all done" and remove him from the scenario. If they were hungry they would eat, not play.

What word or phrase has your little one recently picked up/started using?
His lack of communication with us has me a little worried, but I am just trying really hard to not compare him to other babies...he'll get it in his own time.

Try not to worry about it. Zac wasn't/isn't much of a talker either, and I get nervous hearing things from other mommas (like starcrossed) when babies a month older than Zac are doing sentences. He will get it in his own time and you'll be amazed how fast he starts picking up things. I'd say even in the last 2-3 weeks Zachary's vocabulary has increased tremendously. Don't worry!!
Don't worry! Neena wasn't much of a talker either. I think he's completley normal for his age. :-) She's just now hitting her word explosion at almost 20 months. And, not even close to talking in sentance form.

"A baby nursing at a mother's breast is an undeniable affirmation of our rootedness in nature." - David Suzuki
Does your little one seem to prefer one of you over the other? Does this change? He prefers DH for playing, but me for pretty much everything else like diaper changes, book reading, kissing owies, etc.
What word or phrase has your little one recently picked up/started using? I can't really think of anything that's new. He talks nonstop about anything and everything. My favorite phrase from today: "Mommy I need to go poopy on the potty." That was the first time ever that he told me that he needs to poop before actually doing it.
Anything else you would like to share? We're slowly but steadily making progress with potty training, fingers crossed that he'll be out of diapers by the time the baby arrives.

Do you have issues with separation anxiety?
Not really. Jack prefers to have me or my H around, but he doesn't freak if we leave.
Does your little one seem to prefer one of you over the other? Does this change?
I would say he prefers me 60/40. So not that much of a difference. And it also depends on what he wants, if he wants comfort or snuggles, he always comes to me first. If he wants to be chased around the house or to wrestle, he will go to my H first.
What word or phrase has your little one recently picked up/started using?
Over the weekend, he has started repeating "Far far away" (from Shrek). He has also started to say full sentences. Before it would be (Real Word)-(Real Word)-(Gibberish)-(Real Word). Now he will say "Where Dada go?" Or "Mama Take Tubby Too?" without any gibberish in between.
How do you get in cuddle time?
Jack always wants to snuggle in the AM as he is waking up, and usually wants to snuggle as he is winding down before bed. Other than that, he has recently started randomly walking up to me and saying "Mama, hug" and giving me big hugs. Not sure why, but I sure am not complaining!!
Anything else you would like to share?
Just something cute. If I go downstairs to do laundry or something and Jack is looking for me, he will yell out "Mama, where are you?" and lately if he puts his cup down somewhere and can't find it, he will walk around the house going "Cup-cup where are you?". Cracks me up every single time.
Jo, please don't worry. My brother hardly spoke until he was nearly 4-- and he turned out to be a LOT more academically gifted than me, the vocal one... If I'm not mistaken, it's also been proven that boy toddlers are just naturally less vocal than girls.
It's true that Natalie's biggest strength is her speech, but just like any other kid, she lags behind in other areas which I try to help her with as much as I can... but alas, she is on her own schedule just like all toddlers. I know just as well as anyone else that every kid is unique in his/ her timeline, none of which really proves anything, so if my post came off as mompetition in any way I totally apologize, and I hope you girls know that isn't my style at all.
Does your little one seem to prefer one of you over the other? Does this change? She prefers me and it kills Jake. :-( She's a total mama's girl, but I know it's because she is with me a lot.
What word or phrase has your little one recently picked up/started using? She is hitting her word explosion in that she repeats a lot of stuff or randomly says a word I had no idea she could say. She loves saying "all gone" and "nigh nigh bye bye dadda"
How do you get in cuddle time? When I nurse her. :-)

Next you'll try to tell me Natalie got Justin Beiber to propose to her. STD!

Thanks for the reassurances ladies! I know that I shouldn't be worried about it at all...but there it is anyway!
I've been telling myself all the same things you ladies are saying, but it helps to hear it from other people!
Does your little one seem to prefer one of you over the other? Does this change? Most of the time she seems to love her daddy. But she does love to cuddle with her mommy. She definitely goes back and forth.
What word or phrase has your little one recently picked up/started using? She is such a parrot. She said "Shut up, I'm trying to talk on the phone!" to my MIL and I. I was like OMG we need to stop telling the dog to shut up. She also said "Jesus Christ Hannah!" when she was yelling at her... yup we clearly need to watch our language more...lol Its also really cute cause she says "thanks" now.
How do you get in cuddle time? About once a week she'll wake up in the middle of the night and want to come into our bed and we let her and its so cute cuddling with her, she sleeps right in between DH and I. We also will cuddle on the couch and watch a movie and then read a book.
Anything else you would like to share? I'm so sad for Abby cause her last good friend in daycare was just moved up to the pre-school class. Abby can't move up until the end of October so she's gonna miss her good friends!! We are also signing Abby up for gymnastics at a real gymnastics gym/center. She enjoys going to the Little Gym, but we decided to let her try gymnastics at a real gym. They have a whole separate facility for younger kids where all the equipment is at a lower height.

Does your little one seem to prefer one of you over the other? Does this change? It varies. When he is sad, tired or hurt, he always wants to be held by mama. He is very much a daddy's boy though, loves doing whatever DH is doing!
What word or phrase has your little one recently picked up/started using?
Liam is a chatterbox! He says several of his friends names at daycare (Silas, Violet, Justice). Some other words he now says all.of.the.time: Tucker (sounds like Cucker), cupcake, Thank You and bike.
How do you get in cuddle time? I don't get much. My child is a wiggleworm, and realy only gives hugs ay bedtime. He lets me rock him and sing him a song while he rests his head on my shoulder. Other times he will randomly come up and put his head on our shoulder or leg, and go "aww" for a hug:)
Anything else you would like to share? My little baby is going to be 18 months next week...and will be the ring bearer in my sister's wedding! Hopefully, I will share adorable tux photos in a few weeks:)
Do you have issues with separation anxiety?
Not really - though when Daddy leaves the room we normally have tears, but then she gets over it. We left her all last week w/ Grandma though and she was fine.
Does your little one seem to prefer one of you over the other? Does this change?
Yes, Daddy. No, it never wavers.
What word or phrase has your little one recently picked up/started using?
Something new everyday it's crazy. Just today she started saying "upstairs". The think we're hearing the most is "go, go!" coupled with her running to the front door. She was SPOILED by Grandma taking her on 5 (literally) walks /day last week.
How do you get in cuddle time?
It's very scarce. Normally during part of AM bottle and part of PM bottle.
Anything else you would like to share?
We majorly struggle with this. She dumps food all the time. From the first bite, not even when she's done/bored. We tried all the "we don't do that" and now we're on "NO. No throwing food on the floor. Are you 'all done' **sign all done**". Nothing. Nothing works. She doesn't seem to understand "all done" and it's frustrating as hell. I'll ask if she's all done, she says yes......and then eats. It's really hard - but no, it's not just you. If she'd already eaten I would do what I think Trickey said and just remove her and say 'you're all done" or whatever but she will do it on her first bite having eaten nothing so I don't feel like I can do that.
lol! This is cracking me up
