Things are a mess right now and I'm having trouble dealing with it.
My Dad just got a call from work that he's being laid off. He's a mechanic and the floods got to his dealership badly so they have no idea when they can reopen. His tools are also in the middle of the flood waters so he doesn't know yet if anything is salvagable... and none of it is covered by insurance.
My brother moved back from Florida - got here today, actually - because he got a job here. He's also a mechanic, and his new shop also got flooded. His tools were already in the new shop so he's also waiting to find out what's going on too.
And, the icing on the cake is that my little sister got diagnosed with Lymphoma on Thursday. It's a prelim diagnosis and we'll know more after she has surgery this Thursday, but we're all reeling from it.
It's just been one thing after another. If you could send some vibes that the whole family's luck turns around I'd be grateful.
Re: Vibes
Oh my goodness, Kate. I don't even know what to say. If you need anything, please let me know! I pray that something positive will come from all of this.
Praying and sending lots of positive vibes to you and your family right now!!! :-( Keep us posted on everything xo
I'm just going to turn this into my personal B&M post:
I went out at lunchtime to get more gas for the generator. I took a look at the lines down on the next street over and they're STILL not working on them. And then, a whole bunch of traffic lights on the highway that were fine yesterday are out today. So things are getting worse, not better?!
And there's an article in today's paper quoting the police cheif of the town I work in as saying the power company said not to expect power back until SUNDAY.
I feel like I'm living in some crazy alternate universe where everything is wrong.

Oh Kate! I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with all this, especially all at one time. I hope you get some positive news soon.
About the power- Around here more people have lost power in the days after the storm. Apparently it's because as they're fixing trees that are starting to come down, they're having to shut off the electricity in that area. Not sure if I buy it or not, but hopefully you won't have to wait until Sunday to get power back.

Eff you right in the A, Irene. Eff. You.
All my vibes are headed up that way.
Ditto. You and M are more than welcome to stay with us for awhile. Ok, I know it's like a 14 hour drive and totally not the most practical thing but...the offer still stands.
I am so sorry you are dealing with all of this and especially all at once. MAJOR vibes to you. I hope things improve soon.
Power: It is amazing how widespread this is. There are still many towns with 100% or close to it without power. I hope you get yours back soon.
Thanks, girls.
In good news, our power is back on. The pole down on the street over is still down, and the houses over there still have their generators going. Either that wasn't our issue or they moved us to another circuit for the time being.
In crap news, my Dad's officially laid off and my sister is likely going to be admitted to the hospital because they can't get her fever down.
