Help! re: pet care/vacation

I intro-ed here a while back, but haven't been active much. However, I need you ladies' help.

My husband and I are looking at taking a trip for 5 days at the beginning of October (for his pre-deployment leave). Our friends that normally watch our dog unfortunately got orders to move and will be gone at that point.

Can anyone recommend a dog sitter/kennel in the Jacksonville area? Also, this would be the first time we have to leave him with someone else for more than part of a day so any advice would be appreciated.

  • We've never had to board our before, but if we did I would board them here:

I've heard nothing but wonderful things about them.

GL!  I almost had to board our dogs earlier this year and almost had a panic attack before my little sister came through and volunteered to watch them after I called her crying.  Embarrassed

  • I know, I really wish we knew more people well enough here to leave him with. I'd be a lot more comfortable with that, but unfortunately all of our family is up north.

  • We've taken our dogs here quite a few times and like it.  We have since found someone in our community that will come to our house, but if we had to board again we'd use this place again:

They recently had a groupon. Not sure if it's still good, but maybe worth looking into.

The first time we ever had to board Brodie we boarded him there. I assume he had fun. He got individual play/pool time, doggie ice cream delivered to his kennel, toys etc. What's great (if you're flying) is that the one at the airport is always open. We were able to get off of our 11:30pm flight and go pick him up right away. That's what sold us.

They're associated with our vet's office & I absolutely love them. The facility is awesome & the dogs always look so happy running around there.

I would also recommend Pet Paradise. I've never personally boarded a pet there, but I have a working relationship with them and the facilities are really nice.

  • We have used  A+ Pet Sitting  904-838-2614 and I was very pleased.  She will come to the house as often as you request, and she wrote up a little "summary" of what happened every day.
  • I use Creature Comforts. My dog has serious issues with other dogs, and they are awesome with him. Whenever available they even put him in a separate kennel that is up in the office with them, and they give him lots of attention even if we don't request/pay for it. The staff is all super genuine and hilarious, and it's obvious that they love what they do.

I have a CW who uses Pet Paradise, too, and they love it.

  • Thanks for all of the rec's! I appreciate it so much.

  • Would you prefer to board or keep him at home with a petsitter staying there or making multiple daily visits?  My mom has a business, but she only serves a specific area of town and she does not stay/house-sit, because of her own animals' needs.
