Hola!
So I just wanted to share some information that I have found out.
Some silly information first: You can now watch episodes of Say Yes to the Dress on Saturday/Sunday morning around 12ish on Divinity TV Channel. I think this is a new TV channel of Telecinco
Halydia: I am sorry I forgot your new name but I just wanted to let you know that I called the embassy and they told me that it was okay for American to opositar for a teaching position.
Lady Madrid: How is the citizenship thing coming along? I finally ordered my birth certificate. The only doubt I have is about the police records. It seems that they give you the option of getting them from your country, the Spanish police, or a carta of buena conducta from your embassy. Do you have any ideas?
Re: Info for Spanish Nesties
I have been watching Say Yes to the Dress all the time recently! Divinity is wonderful. I've also been getting my fill of Sex and the City. Haha.
I actually have not started working on my citizenship. I have little motivation to do it at the moment as it won't change that much. I still might look into starting the process before the baby is born, but I know I'll have to get her stuff done as soon as she's born and I don't know that I want to be overwhelmed with paperwork for me and her at the same time. So in short I have no answer to your question since I haven't been doing any research yet.
I'd think if they give you the option of getting the police records from the Spanish police that's the best option. An American friend of mine just had to do that when applying for something and she said it was very simple to get.
Are you looking for work at the moment?
The thing is that I have been a few time to the Registro Civil and every time I go there I get a different answer.
Before I got married, I got my police records from the States with the Apostille Stamp on it. However, as you know you have to wait one year until after you get married to apply for citizenship. They told me that the document was no longer valid when I went a year my wedding.
So they gave me a paper telling me the documents that I needed to apply for citizenship and the option of the carta of buena conducta was on it. So I went down to the embassy and paid like 30 euros and they gave me the carta. I went back to Registro Civil and they told me that it wasnt good enough.
So I went the Ministerio de Justicia to ask for a copy of my police records here and they told me that even if they gave them to me, I couldnt use it to apply for citizenship even though I have spend all of my adult life in Spain.
So as you can see I am pretty much confused as I what I need. I am going to have my DH call. Surprise! Surprise! He has more luck with this than me.
I had a few interviews the last week. I have to go back to the States for a few weeks so I hope to land a job for October. I would be happy with a part time job. I finished school in July so I have been bored but I do have a lot of hobbies to keep me busy.
Such a PITA! I hate that it's so difficult to figure out exactly what you need in these cases. There should just be a list that tells spefically what you need.
What kind of job are you trying for? Working in Spanish or English? I'm kind of wishing I was job hunting right now. I did a little looking around on infojobs, but now is just not the time for me to start working. We are going to revisit the idea in January or February probably.
If I ever find out what we need to apply for citizenship I will let you know.
I applied for some language program coordinator positions.
Do you want to be a SAHM? The only jobs I have found in the past only wanted to pay be under the table. I am not feeling that because I am worried about getting a pension when I am older. Maybe, I just have to go freelance.
Thank you for the heads up! We just got our tv yesterday so I've been having fun with the new TDT channels, etc.
Nerdy question: Are we permitted dual citizenship having a Spanish spouse or is it (as I've understood it) a "you have to renounce your American citizenship" deal...
dulcemaria: I am planning to be a SAHM for as long as possible, but my loans go into repayment in January so I'm thinking we'll have to either really buckle down or I'll have to start working. I have actually worked with an academy on contract teaching english-- all last year. But I'm hoping to branch out of english teaching and perhaps do something else. GL with the job hunt!
elenetxu: First of all, congrats on the wedding! I think I was on vacation when it actually happened so I hope it went well and everything.
Also, dual citizenship doesn't exist for us no. We are supposed to renounce the American citizenship, but most people don't do that and just switch back and forth passports while traveling.
