my super stressful tuesday at costco. (long).
so i went shopping for our camping trip last night and i totally got harassed at costco. i don't have my own costco card...i never have. i've *always* used h's card....for the last 3 or 4 years or so. they always ask "is he here with you?" and i always say "yeah, he's in electronics" or "he's getting a hotdog"....or something...and they let me through.but last night..the dbag was like "nope, i'll wait for him". ............. my h is in s.carolina right now.
i "looked" for h in costco for like an add'l 20 mins... came back and was like "he's not picking up his phone and i can't find him"...but he still refused to help me...
i ended up going out on a limb--i found a random employee working in the back and asked if someone specific was working---- the someone is h's ex (female) bff's ex bf.....ex bff and ex bf broke up about 4 years ago....and h and ex bff "broke up" about 5 years ago.......h and i are still cordial with exbf (at costco) but we don't ever see him elsewhere and don't ever make plans to either.
i was super lucky, and he was there......in the tire center for the day....so i called costco, got transferred to tire center, asked for him....and explained to him the situation.....he left the tire center, came into main-costco....and he was able to talk to the cashier manager, who sneaked me and my giant cart to a different cashier who rang me through.
i was debating back and forth on whether or not i should contact exbf...i really was hoping he was wandering the aisle and i could explain to him..but no, i had to call him, and it was super awkward.....but i'm glad i felt comfortable enough to do it, and he was comfortable to help me.
such a headache. /vent.

I'm going to tough love you, but you need to get your own card if you go without your H. I'm a little annoyed that you were bothering someone that you aren't close with at work.
Costco's pretty lienent, but their rules are also very clear.
Nut up, fork out the $50 and save everyone the headache.

This. Is there a reason you can't be added to your H's Costco membership? I added my H to mine and it was super easy to do. And if your H is on a family Costco membership plan, you guys should pay the $50 for your own family membership.

h has been paying for his dads membership for the last 10 years. if we were to add me, we'd essentially be kicking off his dad.

I don't know if you can still do this, but you used to be able to add on a 3rd card for $15 or 25.

yeah.. you need your own card love. i'm pretty sure it's super simple to get. if you were at the one by my house i would have run down and helped you!
yup, definitely. for a while, we kicked my mom off her account with my dad so that i could be on his account, she ended up being too afraid to ever go to costco w/o anyone, that we switched it back because i was willing/brave enough to bend the rules with the cashiers.
i hardly ever go to costco without my h...if i do, i usually ninja in with one or two items tops..this was the first time i had an overflowing cartload. i think i just won't do anymore major costco shopping without h. i'd rather suffer w/o a card than kick off my FIL.
