Closing/moving essentials

I've been cleared to close on my new home on Friday!!! I'm so excited, and am itching to get out of my aparment now!

We've got the appliances, coach lighting, fans, in-ceiling speakers (of course the man cave is taken care of) garage door opener, mower and all the installation people coming this weekend-are there any esstentials you found out you needed AFTER moving in!? we're hoping we didn't forget anything major...or little that may have forgot for the brand new house. any advice on things I might need would be appreciated :)

Re: Closing/moving essentials

  • Is this your first new home?

You'll need the large trash bins for trash day and a blue bin for recyclables if you're going to recycle.

Other than that it sounds like you've got the big things covered. You'll find things along the way. We closed on Friday and I spent all day Sunday picking up things.

  • shower curtains and rings, toilet paper
  • Is this new construction?  If so, door stoppers, curtains/blinds, water purifier (if you haven't had the water line created for the fridge), rake, water hose, mailbox... there were so many things for our new construction we needed.

  • Im not sure if you need moving advice or first time buyer advice. Cleaning supplies, paper towels, hand soap and hand towels, toilet paper, tools to assemble furniture, trash bags and some snacks/water/gatorade/beer. Small rugs to stop some of the dirt from coming in or those rolls of plastic you put on carpet to protect it. Also if you have wood floors to protect there are rolls of brown paper to tape down. We had lots of beach/bath towels and old covers because it was pouring rain and we wanted to make sure no one slipped and also to dry off the furniture.

  • Lawn supplies (lawn mower, etc.), basic tools, light bulbs, batteries (change out your smoke detectors before they beep at you at 2am)

  • it is a new construction. we have blinds, fridge has the water line and the mailbox came with the house.

RAKE! yes...totally forgot about this and the water hose. Not sure how many leaves I'll have to rake up from our twigs for trees this year...:)

  • New Construction--other things to consider:

    Toilet paper holders

    Towel Racks

    Paper towel holder

    smoke detectors

    CO2 detectors

fire extinguishers (on all levels, garage and kitchen)

garbage cans (kitchen, bathroom, start garbage service)

    hedge clippers

    yard garbage bags
