Coworkers surprised me, sort of

So my office is usually pretty light on the warm & fuzzies, but yesterday they threw me a baby shower!  There are lots of reasons why this is rare, but I'll spare you all my workplace frustrations.  Anyway, most of the women came down to my satelite office (3 people work here, 9 work in Portland), and brought cupcakes and we all ate lunch together.  They even brought a few gifts, including the baby monitor we registered for.

The reason it was only sort of a surprise... is because the other person I work with here freaking told me they were doing it last week.  Just some advice for anyone hoping to throw a surprrise party, don't send an email to the person you are surprising saying, and I qoute, "Hey- We would like to throw a little party for you & baby next week.  Can you do lunch at noon on Tuesday?"  I didn't think it was supposed to be a surprise until people started acting all weird and I saw someone give her an envelope with money being all sneaky.  I'm not sure if she forgot she told me, but I just pretended to be surprised and it turned out great.  And I have a leftover cupcake for lunch today.  :)

Re: Coworkers surprised me, sort of

  • Yay for parties, surprise or not!  And that's funny that she told you and then acted like it was a surprise.  I could see if someone accidentally let it out, but goodness. :)
  • Fun! My coworkers asked if I wanted to be surprised or not and I requested to know when due to planning purposes and such (it was after work) but half the department still thought it was a surprise. Glad you had a good shower Smile
  • Amateurs. Everyone knows the way to do a surprise shower is to have your boss send you a meeting request with your attendance as mandatory. Then you can spend the next week wondering if you're getting a surprise party or getting laid off.

I'm glad your co-workers gave you a little party and cupcakes. Makes being pregnant not quite so bad. :)

  • The women at work planned a joint surprise shower for SBTibbs and I since we work together and were pregnant at the same time... it was a surprise for her (I think...) but I knew about it because a co-worker told me that morning to make sure I wasn't working my second job... so it would have been a surprise... because I had no clue up until that point!

Yay for surprises and baby showers... and cupcakes!
