Kendra, are you around?

The Dr. wants me to go to a few offices and take them "Happy Eid" gifts. I guess it's the end of Ramadan.

Uh.

Suggestions for what I should put in the card.

    God Bless?  ;)

    ha, more like Allah Bless

The Dr. told me what I should put. I thought he was going to leave me hanging on this.

I really need to brush up on my culture/religion, I guess.

  • Sorry I wasn't around to respond, Jena.  We just got back from Sri Lanka last night after a 13 hour flight delay.

The common greeting, as you probably know now, is Eid Mubarak.  What did you send as gifts?  Our office sent out chocolates this year, but most years it is dates.

I took boxes of chocolates to a few Doctors. I ended up putting Eid Mubarak on the cards.

     How was your trip?

    and um. 13hr flight delay..that sounds......delightful.

  • Cool.  I can't remember where you said your doctor is from.  Is he Muslim?

Our trip was really great with the exception of the travel. I blogged about our flight disaster.  I still haven't had more than three hours of sleep in over a day, but the kids' bedtimes are fast approaching so I see the light at the end of the tunnel!

  • I saw your post, what a gigantic nightmare!

He is from somewhere in India, lol. He told me today that he practices "Jainism"

He said that today is "forgiveness day", and that they fast yesterday , and some people (his parents) fast for 2 days.

  • That's interesting.  I didn't know much about Jainism, but now I'm curious.  What was interesting about Sri Lanka was how clearly present many of the major religions were and how accepted this was.  In Kandy there is a historic Buddhist temple near the palace and out of respect they built a Hindu temple and a church there too.  There were also quite a few mosques and, even though Muslims make up only about 8% of the population, businesses were not permitted to sell alcohol on the last day of Ramadan out of respect.
