did your aunts/uncles/miscfamily stop giving you birthday gifts?
my niece turned 12 today. she stopped appreciating gifts long ago, but my uncles gave me gifts until 13..they said that would be the last year. i feel bad about skipping her birthday this year (i called her, but no "gift"), but she stopped getting excited about gifts.
her little brother (birthday two days ago) i haven't gotten anything for yet...i see him this weekend. i need to buy him something.
so side question. what do you buy an 8 yr old that already has every single toy in existence?

Re: at what age
my aunts/uncles/grandparents stopped giving me gifts at like 8.
i always felt jipped.(sp?)
buy him a book. or something he needs. i wouldn't spend too much money.. kids don't play with anything for very long...
They stopped when my parents stopped having family birthday parties for me. Probably around 12 or 13.
Is the 8 year old into any sort of sport? I would lean on something sporty.

Umm....Idk. Def when I was still young. Maybe til 10ish?
Books? ......sorry, it's the teacher in me.
As far back as I can remember my extended family never did bday gifts.
However, I am taking my 8 year old cousin for lunch at the American Girl store. That's her gift. I might buy her something small too.
Can you do something with said child? LIke the zoo?
What? Aunts and Uncles are supposed to give you gifts? Can I back-charge all of them for the past 29 years?
As for gifts for 8 year old boys - no idea. A gift card so he can buy what he wants?
they have food/cafeteria at the American Girl store?? am i confused?

I have one aunt who sent me a present every year until at least 10, and then very frequently up until 18. Didn't usually get gifts from my other aunt/uncles.
I say, if she doesn't get excited about them or seem to really appreciate it, it's time to stop. Phone call or card for her for now on.
For the 8yo, I would say books (I'm a nerd) or try experiences with him. Take him to the movies or maybe just movie theater gift card?
I think 11 or 12, that's because that's when all my aunts and unlces finally started having their own kids and my bro & me weren't the only ones anymore.
Edit: Actually I think that's when they stopped getting Christmas presents. Not sure that I got birthday presents normally...
