Ugh - hating my new hair

I just cannot figure out how to style it so that I like it.  Even when I flat iron it I get these stupid flip out-y things happening at the ends.  When I try to curl it, it gets huge.  Ahhhhhh!

I wouldn't even care so much, except that next Tuesday I have my maternity pictures being taken and I don't want to always look back at them hating my haircut.  I don't know what to do. I could try to go back to the hairdresser, but I really don't want to cut any MORE off....

Re: Ugh - hating my new hair

  • Schedule an appointment just to have your hairdresser style on Tuesday before your pictures. Have her show you how to do it in a way that you like, so you can repeat at home. My hairdresser does this all time. With her, you're just paying for the shampoo and style - rather than the cut.

  • Ditto Cole. I schedule my hair cuts around special events so that I can have her blowdry it and style it nice and so I don't run the risk of having it come out bad.

  • I thought about that....problem is that I don't always like the way she styles my hair.  When it was longer I always liked it better when I did it then her, unless she blew it out with a round brush.  I have a few more days to play around with it so hopefully I figure something out or I'll be calling her in a panic :)

  • The stupid flippy side wing things are exactly why I'm growing my hair back out.  I totally understand the frustration because they wouldn't cooperate with me either, no matter what.  And what made things worse was that they would both flip to one side, instead of both flipping in or out.  So my hair looked like it was constantly swooping to the right.

    Sorry bout your stupid hair.

This is my issue exactly!  One side flips under the other side flips out.

I know I'm kinda just being a pouty baby, but a girl gets attached to her hair.  This is why I don't like trying new things :)

When DH gets home from work I'll get him to take a HDBD picture and show you guys how I did it today which is probably how i'll do it for the maternity pictures.

This. And maybe try a different hair stylist to see if he/she can do your hair a way you like.

  • My hair does the same thing. Air drying always seems to help. I have no idea why.

  • My hair likes to flip out, too.  Although I think a little while before I cut it it actually got to the point where is was long enough to not flip out anymore.

I like your new haircut.  And it is especially cute in your HDBD pic!  I'd try to get a blowout or style at the salon if you think that might help.

  • Mine does that sometimes too. When you flat iron your bangs, you could try flipping them under just a bit rather than just straightening them. Same for any other layers. That way, as your hair relaxes after styling it just goes straight instead of out. Make sense?
