Gunflint Lodge

Has anyone been to the Gunflint Lodge?  I'm thinking about doing a little weekend getaway there with DH.  Any suggestions of things to do or bring?

Re: Gunflint Lodge

  • I have heard it's amazing and yest on crowd cut they offered a half off deal, so check and see if it's still available...

DH and I plan on going this winter.  We love outdoor winter activities and we are really looking forward to everything they have to offer in the winter!!!

  • I have not stayed there, but have stayed at Hungry Jack Lodge on the Gunflint and it is fantastic!  That entire area is gorgeous!

  • Crowdcut just offered a deal and I got it.  It'll be really nice to get away from the cities for awhile.
  • It's amazing!!! We go every winter with my parents right after new years, and it is lovely. It has been both freakishly cold (like, don't go outside all weekend) and unseasonably warm (snowshoed across the lake in fleeces), but always gorgeous.

Stay in a cabin, you can bring food and cook for yourselves, and they have sauna's and fireplaces. I know there is a package where you can get food delivered to you in your cabin too.

Take outdoors gear, jackets etc. They have skis, and I think snowshoes that you can borrow, but we brought our own. We did a night time wolf hike once, and it was awesome. The naturalists who work there are fabulous and knowledgeable, and love to talk about the world around you. We have never done dogsledding, but it's on my list. I really want to try it!
