Boston GTG girls...(Uodated)

How many rooms do we need? WHo's thinking about coming, who doesn't want to share, who is sharing?

ETA: I think our best bet is the Hilton in Woburn. They do a shuttle service to the commuter rail from 7am-10pm and they are 150/night for 2 double beds.

Re: Boston GTG girls...(Uodated)

  • I will share a room.
  • Just so you're aware, you're still looking at at least 20 minutes into downtown from there, possibly longer with rail stops.  and the commuter rail isn't ideal - an actual T stop would be better - they run more frequently and are cheaper.

  • Yeah, I know about the time frame. I thought Anderson Station had a t line as well.

Also, there are other options within walking distance to the T, but this is the nicest.

Yeah, I know aboutt he time frame. I thought Anderson Station had a t line as well.

It's just the downeaster that stops there and goes in to North Station-- it's pretty quick since it's just that stop but I don't think it runs too often.

I just looked on travelocity and a bunch of the hotels/ motels in the Woburn/ Burlington area are cheap and should have shuttle service. It's just farther out and if you miss the last train, you'd have to cab it back which would be pricey.

ETA: oh and I just looked on Amtraks site and cannot pull any ticket info up for it-- I know right now, they are running shuttles into town because of the construction on 93 but it might not continue in October.

  • the line that the Woburn/Anderson stop is on is the one of the only commuter lines that doesn't hit a T line.

Is there anything in Braintree?  The end of the Red Line is in Braintree

Or Newton - one of the Green Line branches ends there.

  • Doesn't the redline have shortened hours on weekends?
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker image
  • All of the lines have shortened hours on the weekends.

There's a holiday inn right near Riverside (end of Green Line).

The Hilton in Woburn is really close to my house!

ETA: I lied, it's not a Holiday Inn anymore, it is something else

No, the red line does run late on the weekends. Usually the last train leaves Park St. at 12:30am.

I also agree that Woburn isn't an ideal location to get everyone into the city. The commuter rail will cost $4.75 per ride and on the weekends that line only runs every 2 hours. But I understand that hotels are $$$.

  • The one I posted in Cambridge was nice and 5 minutes to the green line and a 10 minute walk to Science Museum and Duck Tours.  Not right downtown, but super convenient and free parking for those of us that will be driving.

Cambridge is definitely a good location

  • Ok, that Hampton only has smoking rooms, and they are 269. per night.

I don't think any hotels in MA are smoking. (sorry for the nest hiccup)

  • I feel location in Boston is pretty important.  Understandably the downtown hotels are crazy expensive, but being too far away from the city won't be good either.  It's definitely not going to be easy to find a hotel that will work.

On their website they do list smoking rooms.

    I found these:

This is by Alewife (~10 minute walk to station), but it is up there in price >$250.

This one is in Brookline and also about a 10 minute walk to the C line and under $200. But I don't know much about that area in terms of walking around at night.

Duh, I was looking too, but clicked on Non-Smoking only...

  • Are people thinking of doing Fri and Sat or just Sat night?

Cambridge would be ideal, you really should be "in" Boston proper or Cambridge to enjoy the city - a cab from Boston to Cambridge is not that much either if folks are out past the last train.

  • I'll be down for two nights.  Especially with people flying in (hopefully) two nights will be needed.  Heck, I'll go for longer if people will stick around! :)

  • Here's another, it is in Longwood which is around a bunch of hospitals so the location is safe, it is right in between two Green Line trains, and within walking distance to Fenway. The only down side is that there may be a lot of sirens.

  • I'm up for 2 nights.  I don't know if I'm flying in or driving but will probably know soon.

I think Jaime and I will be sharing a room, but if she's up to it, we could see if we could get a cot to add a third person to help keep costs down.

  • I have no issue with that if it means the difference between someone coming or not!  I also don't mind staying alone if someone can only come if they have a roommate and one is not available.

I want to do whatever it takes to get as many people to Boston as we can! :)

  • I would need to share a room to keep cost down.
  • I don't know if this will help, but we stayed in Saugus, MA ? Holiday Inn Express when I ran the 5k in Boston.  My brother might be able to get good rates there.  I can ask him if you all are interested.  It's not too far from the train station (if you don't get lost like we did!).  The hotel has a shuttle to and from the station and the airport.  My bro and his boyfriend were able to go in and out of the city late each of the two nights they were there with no issues.

Staying in Saugus will have it's downsides similar to staying in Woburn unfortunately.  It's still off the commuter line which is more expensive and doesn't run as often.

  • I plan on going but I would need to share a room because I'm not going to be able to swing w/o doing that.
