Intro and Arts Beats and Eats ?
I'm a newlywed living in Royal Oak with my husband and our dog. Work in finance. I love to cook do yoga and read. Just thought I would introduce myself to all of you.
Now, has anyone ever gone to Arts Beats and Eats? We are always out of town Labor Day weekend so we've never gone, but this year we will be back on Sunday morning and we're thinking of checking it out. What kind of experiences have you had in years past? Thanks!
Re: Intro and Arts Beats and Eats ?
I've never been to AB&E, but wanted to say hello and welcome! Your siggy pic is beautiful!
Ditto for me, except work blocks your siggy pic. I'm sure it is beautiful though.

I went once and here are my thoughts
Pros
Cons:
I would go back if I was really bored with nothing to do or just wanted to find something to do with DH or my friends over the Labor Day Weekend. However, I would not make it a point to attend this event in the future.
Welcome! FI and I also live in RO with our dog.
We went to AB&E last year, and plan on attending again this year. In general, it was crowded by a good time. The food was good (but expect to be a bit sticker shocked by the price; you buy tickets to then get the food/drinks with, and they aren't cheap), and the music and artwork is a good time. Last year it was crowded, but it was the first time in Royal Oak, and they weren't expecting such a big crowd. I know that they have expanded the footprint this year into other streets to hopefully alleviate some of the congestion. I am sure it will still be a bit crowded, but it's a festival with food, music, and art...of course it will be!
I would DEFINITELY say it is worth going. It is only $2 or $3 to get in per person (I think), and even if you don't get any food or enjoy it, you can just leave. It would be an experience nonetheless. FI and I actually just walked from our house. (I wouldn't typically walk downtown from my house, as it is just a hair further than I want to walk, but to save on the traffic/parking, it was worth it.)
*edit - the website is artsbeatseats.com and has a bunch of info.
Welcome to the darkside! [:-D]
As for AB&E, I used to go pretty much every year when it was in Pontiac. I loved going for the free music and the eats were yummy too. I have not been since it moved to RO. I'm looking forward to hearing feedback come next week on how it is this year again in RO.
Thanks for the welcome and your insight on arts beats and eats. We have a group of friends that we want to hang out with this weekend but we arent in the mood to host so we thought we could all meet up for the festival. If not, I suppose we could host and have a pot luck style BYOB gathering so we wont be responsible for everything.
I'll be lurking and posting occassionally. have a nice evening everyone!
We went last year and it was really crowded. When we wanted a drink we went into a restaurant/bar, and that worked out for us as it was cheaper and non-porta potty.
The bands were a good time, my hubby and his friends are all music lovers, so that's what we usually go for.
It was a good time and they are expanding it this year, so I am hoping that it's not as crazy as last year.
We live close enough to walk, so not sure about parking.
We also live in RO and work in finance.
Welcome and congrats!
I grew up in RO and moved a city over once I got married, last year we went during the day to Arts Beats and Eats and like everyone says it was so crowded. They didn't plan very well. I heard this year it's open more so we are going to head down again and give it another try!
