S/O Prom did you have formal events in college?

We did.  We had an annual "ball."  I only went once because it was pretty lame.  There were other semi-formal events, and mixers (I went to a women's college) that I went to.

Re: S/O Prom did you have formal events in college?

  • I never went to any, but they did have annual formals and a senior ball.
  • Only the frats and sororities had formals. The school did not. But I went to a small engineering school. Pretty sure most of the guys wouldn't tear themselves away from their computers for a dance.

    Were you in a sorority?

  • My college had a million and one formal events every year.  It was a little ridiculous, really.  Freshmen year guys who were debating renting or buying a tux for their first formal event were always advised to buy because we had so many formals that the math inevitably worked out better that way.
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

This made me LOL. DH is an engineer (as are most of his friends) and I always tease them that they're such a special breed. DS has that engineer brain, I swear I can see it in him already!

I was not. There were only 2 (at the time, there's a 3rd now) and they were looked at very stereotypically and I didn't want to be labeled. I also played sports so I didn't have the time to dedicate to another organization as well.

My DH is an engineer as well (mechanical). I'm a biologist. The engineers usually weren't the antisocial ones, it was more often then computer science majors. But when you have a school that's 3/4 guys, you are bound to have some odd balls. Wink

There was a funny saying at the school regarding the ratio: The odds are good, but the goods are odd.

My H is also a mechanical engineer! He and his friends are far from anti-social, but those engineers just have a totally different thought process than everyone else haha. DH's best friend was a computer science major and whenever I talk to his gf, I am always so grateful DH isn't really in to computers. Other than making spreadsheets for everything.
  • LOL, my DH is an ME too.  For some reason I think MrsT's DH is as well, but I might be wrong about that.  I've always thought DH has a really atypical personality for an engineer--he's super outgoing, dresses nicely for work even though he doesn't have to, and is all-around very social.  That said, he is very into dorky engineer things like computers, software, cars, and he knows more Excel than I do (and I've been trained to use it!).

My H dresses FAR better than I do. He always looks perfectly put together. ALWAYS. It's almost irritating. And he's super social and can get along with anyone.

But he's always makings lists and spreadsheets. It's more just the thought process that is unique to engineers.

I'm glad he isn't a techie. But he loooves cars.

It's funny because that's totally me and not DH. I LOVE making lists. If I hadn't loved bio and genetics so much I probably would have been an engineer too. I'm always fixing sh!t around the lab and I'm really good at puzzles and how things fit together.

This post went totally off topic, haha!

  • We had a few senior events-- I think a winter formal and a graduation thing. We had a good time. I also went as a date with this creepy guy to the Math & Engineering Ball-- my BFF made me go so she could have friends as she went with her BF.
  • Yep, my BFF and I went with our neighbors to our winter formal. It was lame.

  • I went once to my college's winter formal the Mistletoe Ball.  It sucked and I got wasted.
