Fanfic Ideas

I'm in charge of the writing club at our office. This month we're doing fan fiction. Fanfic isn't really my thing, but I want to make sure I cover everybody's interests in the group, so that's what we're doing.

I can't think of any good characters, though. I don't want to do Harry Potter or any characters like that, but I also don't think I want to go with a terribly traditional character, like Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice.

Somebody in the group is doing Peter Parker (Spiderman) and I think that's pretty cool.

Anybody have any ideas?

Re: Fanfic Ideas

  • Have you read the Hunger games books?  i feel like there are a lot of minor characters who would be amazing to write about/ from their persepective.

  • Nope. I haven't read those. :

  • I would choose a minor character or villain and write through that perspective. I'm a sucker for a fractured fairy tale. Grendel by John Gardner is my favorite book. It's the story of Beowulf through Grendel's point of view. Who's your favorite villain or misunderstood character?
  • Sadly, my mind goes to deep dark places when I hear the term "fanfic" so I'm not even going to start giving my ideas... *quietly sneaks out of the post*

Ah! Grendel is on my to-read list. Gardner taught at my college, so everybody in the writing program is required to read his book on writing (The Art of Fiction) at one point or another. I adore him. <3

Back to the point...I hadn't considered the villain angle. I like it.  I'll have to think about that, thanks!

  • My immediate thought was fairytale characters, good or evil. I am a big fan of the Fables graphic novels. They are "real-life" modern times versions of Snow White, the Big Bad Wolf, Red Riding Hood, etc.
