Suri's growing up :(

Lately Suri has been experiencing cramps.  I try to get to the bottom of what kind of cramps but she can't exactly say.  They aren't the kind that means she has to go to the bathroom though.  I was beginning to suspect it's the menstrual kind but hoping it's not.  Well, she told me she is having them again today.  I am beginning to see a cycle here.  The last time she had them was roughly a month ago, sometime between the 1st - 5th of August while we were on vacation.  That is an indication that they may actually be menstrual cramps!  She's only 10!  I know it can start this early and earlier but come on...not Suri!  I am still hoping it's not that.

  • oh no! I got my period about two weeks before my 11th birthday.

I'm assuming you've had the period talk with her? Have her read "Are You There God, It's Me, Margaret".

  • I thought I had around 2 years since I started when I was 12 1/2.  That seems like a better age for it than 10.  Sad  I have had the period talk with her before but now that it may actually happen sooner than I expected I will have to have it with her again and in more detail.  She hasn't read that book yet.  Hopefully the library has it in.

I'm not even sure how a 10 year old can handle such a huge responsibilty.  At least not this 10 year old!

  • It is hard - it could just be some growing pains or something too though...who knows.

my mom didn't get her first period til she was 16, and I still got it super early.

  • Wow! I think my cousin got hers at 10... my grandmother did, surprisingly... that was rare in that day.

"I must, I must, I must improve my bust!"... love that book.

Love it! Judy Blume's books kind of defined my childhood and adolescence. Did you read "Forever"??? That was one of my favorites (Kasi, don't let Suri read that til she has her first boyfriend).

  • Oh no...my friend's daughter just got her first period and she's 10 and I think my little sister was 11.  I can't even fathom Mariela getting it one day and I sure hope she isn't that young.  I mean come on!  They are barely in double digits!

    Loved Judy Blume!

Kasi-I am sorry your baby is growing up. I had mine when I was 11. It was not fun b/c I remember it was during Christmas time.

hah! yes...I read it when I was probably 12 or 13. But I knew a lot about, ahem, reproduction because of my mom's job (she worked at planned parenthood - sometimes when I was sick she'd let me hang out in an empty office and I'd read Our Bodies Ourselves. I was like 9).

  • Oh no!  This is why I am not looking forward to having a girl.  There is so much that us girls have to experience!  I got mine at 13 but my mom got hers when she was 10.
