Do any of our photography ladies use Macs?? I gave up on using GIMP to edit photos on our MAC b/c a filter I needed for beauty retouching doesn't work on our OS (Lion) and I ended up downloading the trial of PSE9 to test it out. I'm in love so far, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how the heck the Mac organizes/saves the pictures. It's using two paths, but not consistently. One is iPhoto library/masters/and then the whole date string and the other is iPhoto library/preview/and then the whole date string. What is the difference between these and why does it appear that my photos (the originals) are saved twice?
When saving edited images which path should I use? I tried saving edited to the masters path last night and then went to upload into Photobucket, but the uploaded photos weren't the ones I edited except one. I seriously am beginning to get so frustrated with the Mac and I'm sure it is just a learning curve for me and the fact I'm doing this late at night.
I also have a hard time finding photos once I save them. I've tried to use file finder to find them, but when you get to the iPhoto Library in the path it's greyed out and if you click on it opens up iPhoto instead of showing you all the files in iPhoto (i.e. the masters and previews paths). Can you give me any tips? tricks? How should I save edited photos? How do you organize yours? I may post this on the photography board on TB, too.
Re: Mac Users- photographers come in
Heather, I don't specifically what you're trying to do but my husband is a Mac Genuis, I'm going to have read your post tonight and see if he can help. I don't do a lot editting but he does, I mainly use iPhoto and edit in there but not much all my photos are saved in my photo library. I assume it's something to do with the setting in the editting program you're using.
I'll let you know what he says.

Thanks, Jenn. Alexi is new to Mac, too, so he's just learning with me. He pulled up some special other screen last night and started typing all this code to try and figure it out himself and I was so lost.
Heather, this is what he said. He also said if you have AIM he can help you down the road if you have any questions.
Photoshop does not use a standardized save directory, it's simply saves the where last document was saved or the where currently opened document is saved. I would recommend making a folder within your pictures folder called photo shop edits and I would your projects there. The reason it probably defaulted to your iPhoto library is because you opened up a photo that was saved there.
For basic photo editing such as red eye, color correction, levels, touch ups and cropping, iPhoto that came with your mac works outstanding. You can use it to organize via albums, people, dynamic smart albums or events. The reason you can't the iPhoto library from other applications it because it is built for iPhoto exclusively. THey do this to prevent accidental deletion of photos in your photo library.
Once your are done with your editing and organization in iPhoto, you can share your pictures via Facebook, flickr and others via the share menu in the bottom right hand corner, he says photo bucket sucks. If you want to copy a picture click and drag it to your desktop and it will leave the original intact, then you can use this in photo shop.
I highly recommend checking this website out if you haven't already,
