Your favorite spots at Virginia Beach?
Hi Ladies! DH and I are going to VA beach over the long weekend (yay!!), and we've never been there before - what do you recommend? Anywhere good to eat, anything fun to do, any good beach spots, what's the scoop? Woohoo I'm excited, thanks in advance! ;-)
Re: Your favorite spots at Virginia Beach?
Eat at the Surf Rider (http://www.surfridergroup.com/Laskin.html) and make sure to get the crab cakes--you won't be sorry!! :-)
I agree with pp, that the newer area near the Hilton is pretty nice. However, I really like the north end of the beach where there are houses rather than hotels. the beach is MUCH less crowded--like 42nd street and higher. if you can find street parking (and it may take a while), I like it a lot better than the crowded, commercialized boardwalk area.
Hey! I live down in Virginia Beach - love the area. Happy to answer questions - just wanted to give you a head's up - the Rock N Roll 1/2 Marathon is occuring this weekend (Sunday). There will be free concerts Friday/Saturday night and then Bret Michaels and others will be playing Sunday night. The concert will be down on the beach proper.
The reason I tell you this is because traffic Sunday morning will be crazy - and probably the same Sunday night. The weather is gorgeous right now and with Hurricane Katia well off-shore, we should get some surf out of it. Please let me know if you've got questions / want recommendations. Both places mentioned by the PP'ers are great!
Ditto PP -
DH and I are doing the Rock N Roll half again this year and we had a *** of a time trying to find decent lodging near the beach/start line (ended up at a Marriott with a shuttle to the start line).
Ditto the crowds and street closures (their website shows the exact route for a better idea of where the traffic will be) on Sunday.
