Best way to JH Medical Campus?

Hi, I'm fairly new to the area and I need help with finding a good route to the Hopkins medical campus from Columbia.  My son has a doctor's appointment there tomorrow morning, and with the Grand Prix going on, I need to figure out how to get there without getting stuck in the lane closures and traffic.

Thanks, ladies for your help!

Re: Best way to JH Medical Campus?

  • I live in Columbia and drive to the med campus every day, but with the closures I'm not even sure of the best route.  The three of us in my office that come from Columbia talked about it at lunch.  One option is to take Route 40 into the city, which will take you right up to the med campus.  The only problem is that a lot of people are taking this so the traffic will really back up so be prepared for it to take awhile.  Another option is to by pass downtown and take 895.  You can get off at the Bayview exit and then drive down to the main med campus.  You shouldn't hit much traffic in the city but I don't know how 895 will be tomorrow.

  • If you take 895 I would go to Route 40 (Pulaski Highway)/Erdman Avenue and then follow Route 40 down Orleans Street to Hopkins.  It will take you longer because it's stop and go with the lights, but it puts you further out from Grand Prix stuff.

I think a lot of people will be using Eastern Avenue tomorrow (which is where Bayview is) so I would avoid it...but that's just me.

I would do this--lots of lights but the complete opposite side from Grand Prix stuff.

  • Thanks so much for your suggestions.  I took the I-895 route this morning and it was a breeze, no traffic at all!  We were even 45 minutes early for our appointment!
