regret not doing maternity pics?

I never really looked into maternity pics because I knew we wouldn't be able to afford them... am I going to regret not doing them? I don't even have any local friends who are talented enough with a camera to help me out Sad  DH agreed to do a newborn shoot so I'm excited about that.

Is it too late to try to get someone to take some pictures?

Re: regret not doing maternity pics?

  • I don't regret not doing them. It's a special time, but for me, I didn't/don't feel like looking at pictures of myself pregnant. I've got tons of good shots of me with Gaby "out" and that's fine for me.

  • I only have a few photos of me pregnant (I would say 5 or 6)... I didn't even do weekly/monthly photos or any sideways... so yeah I regret it a little... I wish I had at least taken weekly photos to see the change, even if I don't use them for anything just for my memory...

  • I never, ever regretted not doing them.  I'm the type of person that cringes at the thought of getting my picture professionally taken though, and pregnancy was a time I looked the worst in my life  :o/.  I would not enjoy the pictures and they would have been a waste of money.  We did take our own pictures of me every month or so w/ Jake, and then once Katie came along the only pic we have is about a week before she was born.  I'm fine with that  :o).

  • I dont regret not doing professional piictures, but i do regret not taking more. I was planning to take one before the hospital, but it kept slipping my mind, then when we left for the hospital the last thing on my mind was a belly picture, so the last picture i have is from 36 weeks at my shower. I would just  have dh take some pictures.

  • I only like getting pictures done if it captures me on a "cute day"... I look different in every picture I take. I feel like I'm cuter pregnant than I am in real everyday life so I kind of want to capture that!

I think maternity shots are such a wonderful keepsake, especially if you feel extra beautiful right now (good for you!) it wouldn't hurt to try to find someone to do even a half session. Could you check craigslist for an up and coming photographer that might need someone to help build their portfolio?

Later this month I'm going to be doing photos for a friend and I am hoping to do something like this

I think it would make an adorable photobook that could also be shared with baby on top of being a great keepsake for mom/dad.

You could even have a friend use a point and shoot camera and take a few photos of you and DH at a park. It would be something you might be more likely to frame and show off but wouldn't cost you as much as a pro photographer.

    I don't have experience but that's my 2cents.

I would if I had someone who could!

  • I really don't have many pictures of me pregnant, luckily I did take a bump picture the morning that all the chaos went down. I love pictures, but really didn't want to spend money on maternity pictures when I knew I wouldn't plaster my living room with them. I didn't feel uncomfortable in my pregnant body at all, just had no desire to sit and look at it while I watch TV. Money wise, I'd rather have lots more baby pictures :)
  • The only thing I regret is that my last pregnant belly snapshot was at 35 weeks. I planned to have DH take one of me after he got home from work the day of my 37 week appointment and I ended up at the hospital delivering instead. C'est la vie.

I do not regret not having professional maternity pictures. I spent the money on newborn pictures instead. DD is much more photogenic than I am anyway.

  • I agree with the others. I had a friend ask to take some of me because she was building a portfolio and I rarely look at them. The only one I like is a close up of my belly with me holding blocks spelling Eli's name. So, I definitely wouldn't have wanted to spend money on them! We did do a bump pic every week or so and those are fun to look at, but definitely not something I would frame or anything!  I think newborn pics are a way better investment!

  • I had a Groupon for The Picture People in the mall that I THOUGHT I could use for Jameson's 1st pics. Little did I realize that the Groupon expired mid-August. So, because I didn't want to waste the Groupon, I used the certificate for maternity pics. Well, I ended up with 1 picture I liked (and it was just of my belly w/a blue ribbon around it). All the rest of the pictures were so cheeseball, I couldn't imagine displaying them in my house! DH looked uber creepy staring over my shoulder at my belly, smiling awkwardly. . . and I looked. . . well, bloated.

I may have been happier if I went elsewhere for the pics, but honestly, I would rather spend the $$$ on pictures of the family and the baby when he is actually here.

  • I just had a friend who is good with a camera take some pictures in our home.  I don't look at them often, but lately Ben has been trying to grasp the concept that he was in my belly.  He's asked me a few times to see the pictures in the past week.  He loves them.  I'm very happy I had them done.  I put them in his 1st year album.

This is me exactly.  I wish I would have done more weekly pictures, maternity no I don't regret those so much.

  • For my wedding we really cut corners when it came to photography. We had a friend do the photos for us and while he is a great photographer for a lot of things, he had never done a wedding before. There are a lot of shots I wish we had gotten that he didn't get. Also some of our photos that we took with our wedding party don't look great (people not smiling, or posed awkwardly, etc). So I told myself for my pregnancy I want to do some nice photos, not just of my belly shots in my living room that DH has been taking. I have my maternity photos scheduled with Shuga in October and I'm really excited!!

  • I love our maternity pictures.  I probably could have done without them, but I'm really glad I had Tess do them.  Yes, expensive, but her package at the time was for maternity/newborn.

imageThis one is one of my favorites. :-)

I love being able to capture these moments in time because lord knows after the baby is born you lose a million brain cells.   With that said, I do regret not spending more on our wedding photographer for this very reason.
