dewinterizing a home?

what consists of de-winterizing a home? Can plumbers just de-winterize, or do they have to go through a big process?

Anybody go through this and how much did it cost you? how many hours did it take the plumber?

Re: dewinterizing a home?

  • We had a professional de-winterizer who was licensed and insured. Not just anyone, or any plumber, can do it. It cost us $100 and took less then an hour. I would just call around and see who is licensed.

  • I think a plumber can do it.  Our seller actually did it himself but he managed buildings/maintenance stuff.  I would not recommend the buyer do this themself.

This, exactly.  It cost us $100 and took less than an hour.

  • We just did it.  Had a plumber do it, it cost us $300 (but our house is big, so maybe that's why it was expensive).  Also, one of the pipes burst because it hadn't been winterized properly to begin with.
