Give your loved ones an extra hug tonight.
One of my favorite hockey players from my team died yesterday. It isn't official, but it is said to have been suicide. He did not appear depressed at all. Even his own father said they had no idea. This is the third player from the NHL to die this summer. You just never know what tomorrow brings. He was only 35 and he had two little daughters. I am still hoping the rumors of suicide aren't true. Anyway, just remember to give out those extra hugs and kisses.

Wade Belak. He played the "enforcer" role and was usually a healthy scratch. In fact last season he played 19 games for us and was a healthy scratch the other times. He retired in like March and had been doing broadcasting work. He was hilarious and had an amazing personality. He was one of the guys who would always take photos, sign autographs and spend time chatting with fans. After he retired my friend asked him for an autograph and then jokingly said hey why don't you add "red wings suck" on that? And he was like, of course. HAHAHA So my good friend now has an autographed picture thing that says "Red Wings Suck, Wade Belak" I had him sign one of his own sticks last year (they sell them for rather cheap down here, 75 dollars) and when he signed it, he said that it looked like it had never been used. He was awesome and I am so sad that he is gone.
I heard about this, and I'm so sorry about it. I lost a dear friend to suicide in January of 2008 and he was the same way... the guy who would offer to fight your ex boyfriend/ enforcer type, but a huge smile, great personality, and very funny. None of us saw it coming.
When tragedies like this happen with celebrities and athletes, it puts the teams, games, and rivalries into perspective and we realize for a moment that we're all human. My sympathies are with his family and the Preds community.
