nestie vibes....interview today/weekend of doom

so i am taking "lunch" today for a job interview. not entirely sold on the job but figure at the very least it would be good interview practice and never hurts to meet folks. it's a first date in my eyes.

meanwhile, we leave for a family filled weekend tomorrow. i get to hold my nephew! but am bracing myself for all the "where's your baby" issues. my plan of attack this time around is simply embracing "i don't think we are having any" and if they continue to press just change the subject or walk away. meanwhile, the countdown is on for the usual SIL/MIL smackdown that inevitably happens when we are all together.

but whatever, we get to go ao a cubs games and i am seeing many BFFs i haven't seen in a while.

  • Man, you move fast! It wasn't very long ago that you said you were going to start job hunting and you already have an interview. Nice work! Good luck--and like you said, even if it's not the job for you, it never hurts to practice your interview skills!

  • Ugh, I feel your pain. We just got back from a vacation where we were repeatedly asked, "When are you having a baby?" I really don't get why people think this is any of their business.

    Good luck with the interview!

  • Good luck on the interview! It's great to get back in the "job dating" pool.

I'm sorry that you have to face stupid questions at all. They should be grateful they have a talented DIL who loves their son. It makes me crazy when people don't appreciate what they have.

  • Good luck!

I find "it doesn't appear that a baby is in the cards for us" shuts people up pretty quickly.

  • Good luck!  I am sure you doin't need it though!  They would br crazy not to want you!

As for the baby, I had an acquantaince who would respond by saying they recently learned they could not have children and it was a sad subject for them.  That shut folks up fast.  Not condoning it but...........

  • Wow, an interview - exciting!  Good luck!!!!!

I like the "doesn't appear to be in the cards" because it leaves them guessing as to the why - it could be health, finances, just don't want to, etc.  And if they ask why you can just say "this is not my favorite topic" and walk away.

Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.
  • when my mom's super nosy friend kept asking when we were having another (because no one is ever happy...) I said, "it makes me really uncomfortable that you keep asking about my sex life."

And, she has never asked again.

    Good luck with the interview!

  • a) god luck on hte interview -- and on't forget to call my x if you want some other input!

    b) I like the other options PPs have said, but I'd also opt for "none of your business." Bc it is, in fact, none of their business. So if they push, go for rude. :)

Pam, I used to try that with my mother, and she would reply that it WAS her business!

  • good luck on all counts chica!

i had yet another nail salon tech all but tell me to have a baby a few weeks ago - grrrr! i'm still looking for the perfect reply that is witty yet also says "you're an @sshat." and i will most definitely share when i come up with it ;) when asked that, my RI nestie friend's DH would say "when are you gonna die?"

have fun at the cubs game and holding your new nephew!

  • interview went well. i firmly subscribe to being yourself and being in a "what you see is what you get" mentality at these things. it took two hours and i think i gave them what they were looking for. there is a LOT to think about if i get an offer tho.
  • It'll be good to get your name out there.  Good luck with the interview!
