So, Im a huge cook and am pretty obsessed with baking. *Baking relaxes me, I dont have a sweet tooth, so DH eats it or I give it away. I also make my own preserves and ice cream, but that doesn't really excite me so much. LOL
Do you cook every night? What is your specialty?
Do you bake at all?
...here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
I carry your heart(I carry it in my heart)
Re: Cooking....
Cooking:
Im Puerto Rican, so Im well versed in anything/everything Puerto Rican. Been cooking PR food since the age of 8. I can do it with my eyes shut, and dont do it often these days because I grew up eating it EVERY.DAY. *Even if my Mom ordered pizza, she always had rice and beans available "just in case"
Other than that I love to cook seafood dishes (Italian, and Spanish) - Indian, Italian, French, Southern food...
Baking:
There is nothing better than a fresh loaf of bread, so Im constantly making it in the fall/winter. Tarts, quiches, cakes (multi layered, decorative - frosting and fondant) - cupcakes. Pies, cookies, cakeballs (lol) - pretty much anything you can think of, I bake it.
Ice creams: Mostly fruit ice cream - fig, mango..that kind of thing. Sometimes gelatto.
Preserves: Blackberry, fig..the basic stuff.
Okay, now Im hungry..lolol
OMG! I am coming over!!! I like to cook but sometimes I just get in a rut and don't want to. I don't cook often in the summer because my apartment is extremely hot, and if I use the stove, it becomes significantly hotter, and I end up sweating buckets cooking over the stove. I can't even use my oven from May-September because it increases the temperature of my apartment 10 degrees. Plus, my kitchen is tiny, so it is very difficult to cook more than one thing at a time. Yep, Manhattan living for you. But I looovvvve to bake, and eat the baked goods, but it is bad for me! So I guess it is good that I cannot bake May-Sept. Then, I venture outside to find my sweet treats! Or to Alisha's house!
I can cook Indian, Mexican, Italian, Middle Eastern, and some basic Chinese. I definitely cook a lot more in the colder months.
i LOVE to cook too! it can be hard for me to get the motivation to follow through on my menus after a long day of work sometimes, but i cook dinner at least 4 times a week. we usually order in on fridays, go out on saturdays, and have one night during the week that we're out for dinner with friends.
DH is a better baker than me, because he is all about precision and measurements. that said, i LOVE to make cookies, and simple birthday cakes. i want to take a cake decorating class, because mine never look as good as they taste!
some of my specialties are clafoutis and soups. we're in a farm share, and those recipes are great for getting rid of extra fruits and veggies so they don't go to waste. i also make my own marinara sauce, and it's pretty darn good, expecially considering i don't have an italian bone in my body!
we should post some of our favorite recipes on this board!

My cooking energy has an ebb and flow. I get into streaks where I cook a lot and then have weeks where I barely open the fridge door. DH cooks too but usually with me. He has a few things that he can do really well on his own, though. I like to cook more in the cooler months too. I love making soups, stews, and chilis. I also love a good roast chicken. Lately, I've been cooking a lot of fish and seafood dishes. I do bake some but not real fussy things: cookies and muffins, mostly.
We rarely have people over for meals but it's definitely something that I would like to do more. We've have several brunch parties that were fantastic and it really wasn't a lot of work.
In terms of family stuff, we have a few recipes that I do that I could do in my sleep. I like cooking all different kinds of food, though, so I'm not too partial to any ethnic category.
I love cooking but I am tired of cooking the same old Caribbean foods like we are back home. Can you believe that I have never made a roast? Or a meatloaf? I need to work on that. Stat! I want to try more dishes and I have cookbooks for that. I just need to get my butt in gear.
I would love to bake more. I was just researching a yummy quiche recipe. I rarely make cakes and if I do, they are the basic butter cake or banana cake. My mom was never really a baker so I guess that's why I never got into it but again, I have recipe books so I need to step it up!

Haha Lawby I have never made a roast or a meatloaf either. I didn't even know what a roast is until recently. Well maybe I still don't - a big hunk of roasted meat? I don't eat beef so there you go. I don't really cook much American food, unless you consider burritos and tacos American. I consider it Mexican. I do make pancakes, so that is American! Omlettes are technically French... hmmm hard to think about what is actually American.. oh CHILI, I love (turkey) chili
I'd love a Carribbean recipe! Chicken is good!
