How to set up a personal website for work?

If you take a look in my siggy, you'll see the link to my blog. I have a decent knowledge of how to set up a blog, but I'm not clear on how to set up a website for work-related stuff (I am a journalist, and I'd like to include articles, photography, etc.). I think I will purchase my own domaine, but does anyone have any advice or expertise on this?

Re: How to set up a personal website for work?

  • What kind of a work-related site is this? I do this type of work for a living and the lines are blurring between a "blog site" and a "website." Unless it's a large organization with hundreds or thousands of pages to migrate, I recommend purchasing your own domain, using WordPress, setting up on BlueHost (my personal favorite), and using a paid template through a service such as Elegant Themes. Simple, yet professional looking!
  • You can also buy your domain name and go to squarespace.com and do your designing/hosting there.  They have a ton of designs and WYSIWYG editing.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • DH and I each have a website for our work stuff.

Mine is to run online classes on.

DH's is to showcase his projects, basically an online portfolio (architect).

Buy your domain on a site like godaddy, and then find a host to hold all of your files.  I've been with dathorn for 10+ years now.  They're great because you can host multiple domains in one account (not common with hosts).   We run 7 websites between us, so this is a big plus for us.
