Guess who's getting a Kindle for her Birthday/Anniversary present? ME!
But I have a few questions. We are trying to decide between getting the US version (shipped to Mom, then to us) or just get the Australian version (same price and they are up to 780,000 titles to choose from)
The key questions I have are:
Will the Australian version work in say, France?
The books are currently priced in USD. While this will benefit us now with the exchange rate, should I be too concerned about them changing this in the future to AUD prices? If they do switch to AUD price, do you think I'll be able to pay for books on the Aussie version with a US CC?
Any other concerns I should look into?
Re: Kindle questions
Hiya!
I absolutely love my kindle :-)
The only reason I got mine on the US site was because it was like $50 cheaper than getting it on the UK site. It doesn't matter at all where you buy it from - you can register it to any country you like. My amazon account is linked to a UK credit card but I am registered as a US user (there are way more free books on the US site). I've actually switched it back and forth several times now to get books that were a better price or only available on the UK site.
so honestly, it doesn't matter. If you notice that the book selection / price is better on the US site, just change your account to a US account.
I have the 3G version (so handy for travelling!) and it's worked everywhere I've gone in Europe except parts of Croatia and Estonia. Anywhere I've been in Western Europe it's worked perfectly. I'm curious to see if it works in India next month!

Thanks! I didn't realize I could switch accounts. That would solve any future CC/exchange rate issues.
We aren't going with the 3G, just the WiFi model. We don;t travel enough anymore to justify the difference is cost.
I have the American version and I don't know anything about the Aussie one, but I did just see that they are starting to sell them at Big W.
Anyway, I have had no trouble with my American one and I like that when I am buying books through amazon I can use my US credit card or my Aussie one. I only have the Wi-Fi one and I figured I could download some books before traveling anywhere.
