PhDs/PhD students

It seems like we have a lot of PhDs and PhD students on the board! So just out of curiosity, what is your PhD in? I seriously considered doing a PhD but decided to go for the MD instead, but I might still do a PhD someday :-)

Re: PhDs/PhD students

  • I haven't done a PhD; I can't imagine caring about something that much for such a long time.  I just wanted to say congrats on the test!  I never had a doubt you would kick it's as$!

  • I finished my PhD in 2004. I started a MA in the US (UMich) in 1997, left the PhD programme there because I lost funding (long story) and started my PhD in 2000 in Wales (Welsh history - hence the name). I gave up applying for jobs because DH was finishing up his PhD and I wanted to stay with him, and regret that - I've done nothing professional since 2006. :(

Joanna, I always thought I'd enjoy being a doctor - just never did very well at Bio and Chem!  ;)

  • My DH has a PhD in Philosophy, and that's what he is currently teaching at the college level.

I've always considered going back for a PhD - probably something in Communications. But we'll see...there's always time!

  • I guess this doesn't apply to me, but I used to be a Ph.D. student. Does that count? lol I started a Ph.D. in Computer Science right after I finished my B.S. After I finished the written preliminary exam, I quit and got "just" a master's instead. It's a terminal master's, so I can't go back for a Ph.D. even if I want to, but I haven't regretted it for one second yet. I thought I would like it a lot more than I did, and it just wasn't for me.

  • I am not a Ph.D student, but my DH just got his Ph.D in Literature (British Modernism/Irish Writings).  That's how we ended up here; the university money in the states is zilch, so we came where there were jobs.
