My poor sister just had to experience watching her little 5 year old boy get bullied and teased on the playground. He's autistic, so he recognizes that he's not being allowed a turn and that the kids are making fun of him but he doesn't understand why they're doing it. None of the parents heard what their kids were saying and if they saw it, they didn't care; my sister had to step in to tell the kids that they weren't being nice and that her son needed to have his turn.
She was so upset, though, that she ended up cutting their time short at the playground (including her daughter's time) and leaving after he had his turn on the activity. She is worried that outside of school-- where the teachers are really good about shutting down bullying and teasing-- her son is going to be defenseless. He doesn't have the vocabulary or comprehension to stand up for himself except to say "hey it's my turn, now" (and then get made fun of for saying that over and over again).
I just wanted to go over and kick the parents in the shins for not teaching their children how to share and take turns. My parents ALWAYS told us that it was our responsibility to stand up for kids who couldn't stand up for themselves.
My heart just breaks for my sister; I can't imagine watching your beautiful, sweet child be made fun of by a bunch of bullies and knowing that you can't be there to stop it every time...

Re: I want to hug my sister
That's so awful that your sister had to witness that. Kids can be horrible sometimes.
Ugh, the poor little dude. And your sister - I want to hug her too.
Those other parents seriously suck for letting their kids bully another child right in front of them.
