I received a call yesterday asking me to interview today as an assistant. The interview went really well in my opinion, and the position seems perfect for me- its in a small K-5 school (small compared to the other schools in the district), working with K-2 students (but mostly 1st grade- which I student taught in), and the principal said she prefers her assistants to be certified so they can teach the actual class lessons while the regular teacher focuses on intervention. It would be the perfect way to get my foot in the door at the elementary level (the only interviews I've gotten the past two summers were for middle school).
I think the hardest part is always waiting after the interview!
Re: Fingers crossed..
It's always a REALLY good sign when you get called in for a job w/in a school just a couple days before or after the start of the year. It means that everyone else internally is set in their places, so the risk of an internal taking that position over an external hire is relatively low. (This coming from a lady with a husband, mother, mother-in-law, father-in-law, and best friend in the teaching business. )
BEST OF LUCK!
I know! School started last week, but the opening is because the TA was moved to kindergarten teaching position just yesterday when they added another section.
Thanks!

This sounds like a great opportunity for getting your foot in the door. Good luck and keep us posted!
