Need a DSM OB/hospital rec please!
No midwives please!
Family doctors are great too, that's what I have now.
Also, if you could let me know if the Dr. you recommend is the only one I would see for the duration of the pregnancy, or if I would rotate through them, that would be helpful too since I am new to to whole OB thing.
Right now our house is listed in our current town and we are planning to rent in West DSM.
Thanks!

Re: Need a DSM OB/hospital rec please!
I highly suggest the group at Lakeview OBGYN in West Des Moines. Some people chose to see only one doctor throughout out their pregnancy, but I chose to rotate through whoever was available when I had an appointment. You (most likely) won't be able to choose who you'll see on the 'big day' so why not get to know them all ahead of time?
Even my 'least favorite' of the group was the one who ended up delivering my baby and he was fantastic. So I guess that says something about the experience!
The group at Lakeview OBGYN delivers to Methodist hospital - both downtown and West.

Good to hear! I asked a college friend - no babies yet - and she goes to Dr. Bedia there and plans on using him for when she does have kids. One of her coworkers is pregnant with her second and uses him/them as well.
I agree, the 10 mins of baby catching is not all that important to me as far as delivery goes.
Do you have a pedi rec? I will find out in 2 weeks if this is a boy, but if it is, we circ and our family doctor did that with our first. So do I need to find a pedi to circ him at the hospital or does the OB do that?

"Baby catching"... ha! Love it. So true. Great way to put it!
My pedi is in the same building as the obgyn. It's Lakeview Pediatrics and I see Dr. Liedman. Hes' a fantastic -- no bvllshit, not one to handout prescriptions, but extremely patient and doesn't rush through your appointment. In this situation, I do NOT rotate through everyone in the practice because I like building that history with the one person who always knows my babe. Personal preference.
He will get circumsized at the hospital (or at least our son did) but not by our pedi.

Awesome!!! Thanks! I feel so much better, I've been kind of sick about this, the relocation timing could not have been worse. Luckily I'll only be 24ish weeks.

We see Dr. Secory with Des Moines Pediatrics and Adolescents. THey have clinics in Clive, Beaverdale and Ankeny. There are several drs and NP's, who are all pretty good. Dr. Secory is the DH of a nestie on here, and we love him. He's great with kids, listens well to the parents, and is great to work with. The clinic is also great-the staff is great at questions, professional, and nice. We didn't circ with either DS, so I got nothing for you on that. One thing I love about DMPA is that the doctors do the rounds at the hospital, so you'll see them after the baby is born, not some general dr who reports back. To me it keeps a better continuity of care.
I'm sorry
If you do decide to go with Lakeview OBGYN, you might want to go ahead and call to set up your first appointment with them. I believe they are a pretty busy practice so it might not be a bad idea to get settled.
Not that I'm saying they're the ONLY option, but whatever route you choose you might want to get the first one scheduled.
You'll have to let us know whether it's girl or boy

I'm going to second the Lakeview practice, but I primarly used the Downtown Methodist Plaza office, since that was closest to my work at the time, they're all great!
Dr. Bedia delivered El, and I absolutly LOVED him! Even though that was the first time meeting him, he was gental and funny. He cut me insted of letting me tear-my choice, and sewed me up very nicely, you can't even tell now (17mths later)
We were joking around with him because he made me wait while he did a c-section. I begged the nurse to let me push, so she did, then he came in just in time to do the rest, ( I LOVED Ashley, sadly she moved to CA) Anyway, we told him to save the placenta for us because we were going to frame it. He went along with it, lol, also, my H, being the wonderful joking man he is, told him to do and extra stictch. HAHA honey! Anyway, I love Iowa Health services.
My Pedi is Dr. Boonstra, I'm not sure if he goes to Lakeview or not, but he's with the Blank Peds, at Methodist, on the 3rd floor.
Another vote for Women's Health Services! I have had a great experience with them for both of my pregnancies.
We also see Dr. Secory at Des Moines Pediatric and Adolescent Clinic. He's great and we really like the other doctors and NP's we have seen at both the Clive and Beaverdale clinics.
I'm also a Lakeview patient, but have been seen at all three locations (Ankeny, Downtown, and WDM) and had a good experience at all of them. Dr Mintzer was our doctor this time around and was absolutely fabulous. With our DD we rotated through the doctors, but this time we stuck with Dr Mintzer and Dr Lehman just because of scheduling.
Our pediatrician is Dr Megan Beebe in Waukee, but I would recommend all the doctors at the Iowa Health Waukee location. I will admit I am biased because I used to work with them, but they are all patient and caring and really know their stuff!

I also recommend Lakeview. We moved during my pregnancy and I didn't start seeing the doctors in WDM until my 7th month but they were fantastic. In the 2 months I was here I saw all 4 doctors in the practice but most of the appointments were with Dr. Erin Lehman and Dr. Badia. Dr. Lehamn is who I initially selected for my OB and she was on call the day I delivered so she delivered my little girl at Methodist downtown but I would have been comfortable with any of the doctors in the practice. I was admitted during my 36th week due to really high blood pressure and the doctors covering labor & delivery for the 2 days I was there were in the same practice but from the Ankeny office. They were also nice. My induction/delivery was at 39 weeks and Lehman happened to be the on call doctor for the group.
We see Dr. Rodehmier at Lakeview Pediatrics (same building- 1st floor). We have only seen her twice but have been happy both time.
It looks like you've already decided but I LOVED ObGyn Associate of DM. I rotated through the group of doctors because as Molly Jean said, even if you have one doctor for the whole pregancy, there is no guarentee that that same doctor will be around for the delivery. There was only 1 doctor that I didn't love - and I saw all but 1 thoughout my pregnancy - but he wasn't bad either. As a first time mommy and not many friends/family members to rely on for information, it was great to know how reassuring and helpful they were.
We moved when I was 8 months pregnant and I still made a point to go to ObGyn despite the 3 hour round trip drive for a 30 minute visit.

Another rec for OB/Gyn Associates. They have a downtown location, WDM, Ankeny and I think Pleasant Hill now too. I worked downtown with my first so my appts were down there. I was already seeing Dr. Dornbier and saw him for the majority of both pregnancies and he delivered both babes. LOVED him! He went the extra mile with the first one and made such a difference. DH and I feel like we owe him the world. There were others I liked as well. They deliver downtown and out west (during the week). They have three females if that makes a difference. I have seen two of the nurse practitioners and liked both.
I didn't read the other posts. I just thought I'd throw out there my OB, since we just had our baby and everything is fresh and new. I go to Women's Health Services, out on the west side of Clive. There are 4 female OB's that deliver (one male who doesn't do OB), and a nurse practitioner. You rotate through the OBs throughout your pregnancy, which ends up being a godsend because the one I thought I would not like the most during delivery ended up being the most amazing doctor I've ever had. It's really nice to get different perspectives and different personalities.
Oh and I delivered at Mercy (main campus, not West Lakes).
