(Intro) Maine Gen v. Inland Hosp

Hi ladies,

My husband and I just moved to Winslow. DH works out of Augusta and I'm am currently a SAHW. From the little bit of lurking I've done it seems that a few of you are expecting or have children, so I'm hoping I've come to the right place and of course congratulations go out to those who are!

Do any of you recommend anyone in particular for prenatal care in the Waterville/Augusta area? We just found out that I'm pregnant and I'm not sure where to start as far as scheduling my first appointment goes/what hospital I would want to deliver in. The Inland Hospital L&D facilities look really great but I'm a little hesitant about Maine General in Waterville (this may be kinda silly but I'm basing this soley on the fact that I wasn't incredibly thrilled with my past expereinces with KVOB/Gyn in Augusta). That said, from what little I could dig up online it seems that the prenatal care affiliated with MG is getting better reviews.

Any recommendations for OBs would be helpful or if anyone has any insight on MG v. Inland hospital for L&D I would be forever greatful! TIA and I look forward to getting to know some of the Maine nesties and girls nearby.

  • Congrats to you and your H.  I am delivering down at CMMC in Lewiston.

I know there are some ladies that should be able to answer your questions though :)

  • I used KV OB/GYN for prenatal and delivery last April.  I had a really good experience with them.  They have gotten some new docs in the practice over the past year or two so maybe its worth a shot again.  I can't speak for Inland practices or their facility, but MeGeneral in Augusta is great.  They have nice clean rooms and their labor unit is nice too.

KV has merged with MeGeneral and so now they are MeGeneral Ob/Gyn I think.

  • I use Waterville Women's Care. I LOVE two of the DR's there. The one midwife and the 3rd DR I don't care for at all! The midwives you only see for 2-3 visits though. And after I met the one DR that I don't like, I request the other two now for all my appointments. When it comes time to deliver I won't have a choice which DR I have, as I get who is on call. I think by that point I'll be dealing the the hospital nurses though and the DR won't do much until the end, so I really don't care which one I have. They are all good DR's....just the one has ZERO personality. All in all I think it's a great practice though. They use Maine General for delivery. :)
  • Thanks everyone for your feedback. I'm leaning towards Waterville Women's Care as I've read some good things about them, so its good to hear some of the same feedback here. I hear a lot of good things about Maine General's Augusta campus too, do you know if WWC uses both campuses or only the Waterville location?

    Thanks again!
