I think you should go for a bit to make an appearance and say hello. You don't have to stay for long, but you should stop by.

How close are you/how are you related to the bride? I think it really depends on the circumstances, but I'm leaning towards the above.
ETA: More specifically, if this is say, your younger to be sis-in-law and you're 10 years older than the group and its all her friends, I'd say its OK to miss it. But if this is your good friend/close familly member, def make an appearance.
