AMAZING deal at Aaron Bros

In case anyone wants to know, I just got an email for 60% custom framing - I've been getting their emails for a couple years and I don't know if this has ever happened.  In the past year I've maybe seen one or two times where they've done 50%, but this is really good (can we say the economy is bad??).  The deal is probably on their website and/or you can sign up for their emails.  Or if you need, I can forward it to you.

Re: AMAZING deal at Aaron Bros

  • I don't need anything framed right now, but do you know how their prices compares to Michaels?

I just had 2 things framed at Michaels and event with a 60% off coupon, I almost passed out at the price.

  • framing is EXPENSIVE! i got a quote from michaels once..and after all was said and done, i said "oh, i also have a coupon, so it's 60% off that, right?" and she said no because she quoted it with the coupon since those come out every week.  needless to say, i have unframed canvases at home right now.

yes, i'd like to know how aarons compares to michaels. they are the same parent company, right?

    LOL.

  • Their prices were within 50 bucks of each other last year when I was trying to use 50% off coupons.

I don't get why custom framing is so expensive. Does anyone know? If so, I'd like to be enlightened.

I know, it's pretty ridiculous.  I know there is a U-Frame place somewhere that I've heard is at least a little more reasonable.  My guess is that it's the labor/time?

Wait, so what's the conclusion?  Are Micheal's and Aaron Bros comparable by price/selection/service?  All things considered, it's probably still more worth it to me to go to Aaron Bros since it's closer (unless I want to make a trip out of it and hit up The Rack/mall).

    Yes

I think that Karimychel has concluded that the prices are not too far off from each other if you use a coupon.
  • I went to the U-Frame shop in Ballard and the people were nice - but because of the type of framing I wanted to do, I wasn't able to do it myself. Basically to do the frame yourself option you can only choose a stock frame.

But to me framing is an investment. I'm way less likely to ruin something long term if its framed and hung in the house.

Agreed, but it kills me to spend $12 on "art" to only have to spend another $200 on a frame.

lol oh I don't even want to think of the number of times I've done that...

I hear ya! I generally only buy art when we travel. So I guess I kind of lump the framing expense into the vacation expense.

The canvas I bought in Africa was $7. I spent $150 to have it evened out and stretched. But chances of me going back to Africa anytime soon aren't very good.

  • Imagine my pain: I met DH while we were working at a friggin' frame shop!! So I know all about mark-ups, actual costs, etc. We worked admin though so I didn't actually get to learn the skills of assembling frames, et al. So I used to get things framed at  near cost...and now that we don't have that option, I have all these things that need framing. However, it absolutely kills me to pay frame shop prices! I can do all the designing, and even most of the fancy labor for fancy inserts (called fillets) and matting things (I'm only so-so at mat cutting) but can't do any of the actual frame/glass crap.
