I don't know why I bothered. . .
DH has an inkling of where we'll be headed for his next assignment (Spring 2012). We both prefer to live on post if it is a viable option. I know we are seven to eight months out. I know that wait lists are longer during different times of the year. . . I called the housing office anyway to see if I could get a rough idea. Silly me. I think that the leasing agents must take a full day's training on how to be as vague as possible and to never give an answer to questions like this. The call was not helpful in the very least. Ugh.
I know, I've got lots of time. I also know that they likely don't give out information like that because some people don't "get" it or try to abuse it ("But, leasing agent So and So told me it would only be one month!!!"). I just want to know if I need to research neighborhoods out in town. Oh well. It's not the end of the world, I know. This is one of the aspects of military life that I struggle with. I don't want to end up in a crappy house or a less than desirable location. I've been through this often enough to know that trying to do anything about it now is pointless and, it will work out.

Re: I don't know why I bothered. . .
Most places won't give you any info until you actually have orders -- and a lot can change between now and then, so even if they did tell you what it's like NOW, there is no way to forecast what it will be like in 6 months.
I know it's frustrating to not know where you're going to live, but until you get orders you don't even know for sure that you're going to that base. You'll have plenty of time to look for housing when you get orders.
