How do I go about doing this? E is still in diapers at night. Last spring break we tried going to undies, and it was miserable. She would wake up, but only after she wet the bed. It wouldn't be so bad, but she has a stuffed George and a blankie that she sleeps with. If either of those get wet, it turns into a sob fest and neither of us get back to sleep.
We've never tried pull-ups, but I think we'll try them tonight. The last few nights she has woken me up to go to the bathroom because she can't get her diaper off. Her diaper is wet every time, but I figure this is a step in the right direction. Any advice? I'm hoping we can get her out of diapers completely by the time the baby comes in January.
Re: nighttime potty training
Good Luck!! My DD was 3 in March and still wears pull-ups to bed. I don't forsee her being able to stop anytime soon either.
She is a very heavy sleeper and only wakes up on occasion to go potty (like once a month) during the night. Over the past month she is waking up dry from naps about 80% of the time so I feel like that is a start.
We have decided not to push her even though I would really like to stop buying pull-ups. We trust our peditrician very much and she recomended us not waking her up during the night unless this continues on for another year or so. She said that potty training at night is a whole new ball game and it is sometimes really difficult for kids to get the hang of. She explained to us that even if we were to wake her up to go potty it isn't giving her bladder a chance to communicate with her brain that it is time to wake up. So in the long run we aren't doing anything except waking ourselves up and her up to pee, its not teaching her body what it needs to do. My DH also wet the bed when he was a little boy. Our pediatrician also explained that kids who have 1 parent that wet the bed usually have a 40% more chance of doing it themselves.
I would love love love for her to be potty trained at night! Best of Luck to you Hopefully she will pick it up quickly!
C has been daytime potty trained since he was 18 mos. old. We are still working on being dry at night. We will go almost 2 weeks without having a nighttime accident and then we will be right back to being wet every morning for a couple of weeks.
We do hold back on the liquids after dinner. I think part of the problem is that she doesn't empty her bladder fully each time she pees. Last night, she went potty right before bed. Ten minutes later she wants a new diaper because she peed a bit. Ten minutes later it's the same thing.
The other night, she went potty, then I asked her "Is that all?" She smiles and pees some more. I ask again, she pees some more, until finally she says she is done. I'm not sure how to get her to get it all out at once!
At night I tell Hunter ooooo I see some more in there and then we both push on his tummy a lil and he pushes and goes a ton more... that seems to help... yeah we made a game out of it so what. haha We cut off drinks at 645... He goes potty at 715 before the bath and then he goes again after the bath and then I go in about ten mins after he's been in bed with just his pj shirt on and he goes again then we finish getting him dressed. So he goes potty 3 times in the matter of about 45 mins-1 hr and it has helped a ton. We have maybe 1 accident a week.
