bad news (work related)

For the last 11+ months I have been detailed to another group at work. It's always been the plan that they would bring me on permanently once the year was up. My boss here really seems to like me and she even came to me 2 weeks ago and told me everything was taken care of and the job was mine, I just had to say the word.

Well, apparently, everything wasn't taken care of and I just found out that she wasn't given a full time slot for me and I'm going to have to go back to my old group.  She could maybe keep me here if my old boss agrees to extend the detail, but that would mean he is paying me to continue to work in someone else's office. It's unlikely.

So, I'm pretty bummed. I hate this feeling of being in limbo and really having no say over where I end up. I've been out of the other job for a year, and they all know I wanted to leave for good. The work was kind of 50/50 - half of it I really enjoyed and half of it I hated. The old job involved more travel, so I did like that...

I don't know... I know I shouldn't complain because at least I still have a job, but it's still disappointing. I like the job I'm in now a lot. and I was finally getting put in charge of some agency-wide projects, so I hate having to give up those things as well. bleh....

  • Ugh, that really stinks.  It sounds like a lot of bureaucracy and red tape :(  I hope things wind up working out and you get to stay where you are.

  • I'm sorry. I would be upset too. It's bad enough to get your hopes up about something & then not get it, but when you thought it was a done deal it has to sting even more. The being in limbo would definitely be unsettling as well. I hope they're able to work something out.

  • Oh, no! You're doing such a fabulous job keeping the social media for them up and running! CAn they not see the benefit of full time finances to support that?
  • I'm sorry, I'll keep my fingers crossed that your old boss lets you stay in the new position.

  • :( That's frustrating. I know exactly what you mean about trying to be thankful for what you have while still being bummed that you're not getting what you deserve.

  • Sorry.. that really stinks. Before I went on maternity leave I got taken off the one project I actually enjoyed at work. It is going to suck going back toa job I don't enjoy as much. I hope your boss will let you stay in your current position.
