talk to me about Dutch Babies and share a recipe if you have it
Since I'm one of the few that still don't get what this Dutch Baby thing is, please enlighten me.
I've looked up recipes for it, but I don't get if it's a dessert or brunch item.
If you have a tried and true recipe I'd take that too.
Gracias!

jumped ship to the new and improved nest. back to TB for baby boards.
I already know where babies come from. Thanks.
Le Cruset is brand that makes a french (or more commonly known as a Dutch) oven and other kitchen items.
They're enamel coated cast iron pots. If you don't have one you must go get one. They're amazing.
so a dutch baby =/= a dutch oven.. lol. got it.
i need a pip por favor.
I tried to google image search "dutch baby", but all I got were pictures of kids.
My mom used to make them for us for breakfast all the time. She had a recipe that didn't have a ton of sugar in it. You can control the sweetness with what kind of toppings you use.
This recipe looks similar to what my mom used. And now I want one...

How we've always made it:
- 1 c flour
- 1 c milk
- 4 eggs
it's that simple! which is why it was sometimes a go-to brinner. Preheat the oven to 450, mix the batter. This makes two and we always used glass/ceramic pie dishes. Spray/butter the dish (liberally) and pour in the batter. Bake for 20 minutes and it should look like this:
We ate it with lemon/powdered sugar, syrup, jam... anything you'd put on a pancake basically.
ETA: we often melted the butter in the sprayed pie dish in the oven, not sure if it's important that the dish is hot, but maybe it is now that I think about it
ETA2: the crunchy edges are the best part!

Crunchy edges ARE the best....and LIBERAL lemon juice with powdered sugar =

Now I'll have to try your recipe. I've had them but haven't really made them.
yeah, that's just a pic I found online. We use a pie dish and that works just great!
