Labor Day Weekend Plans?
Anyone hitting up the sales? I am so tempted to buy a washer & dryer but our basement looks like a horror story and even if I bought it, it would not get installed till next year like February since we are still renovating. But the price is amazing! Like $859 a pair of Whirlpool cute frontloaders at Lowe's!!!!
So besides sales, any plans?
You know this weekend is usually my time to shine at all the various Caribbean celebration events but I am taking it very easy and staying close to home. Plus I am starting school next week so I may as well take this time to read up.

Hi Lawby! Ok, I have been wanting to go to the Carribbean events for like 5 years now. Could you please share which are the more tame events and when and where they occur? I'd particularly like to get some good food and see some dances!

Hmm, today I am hanging out with friends. Hubs and I are thinking about going to the Cloisters at some point this weekend, and we are meeting friends on Monday. Hope to squeeze in some Caribbean fun in there!
the carribean events happen right here in my neighborhood...crown heights, brooklyn! it starts EARLY (like before dawn), and runs LATE (like until dawn the next day)! there is amazing food and music. however, be aware that it is a complete and utter shitshow. the crowds are packed tighter than you can imagine.
tonight, we are laying low...last night's happy hour went a lot later than expected! tomorrow, we are headed out to fire island for the weekend. i CANNOT WAIT to be sitting on that beach!
saturday is our beach house's annual shrimp boil, followed by the famous BLT party, for which you are required to wear either Black tie, Lingerie, or a Toga. the whole town comes out for this one, and it's always ridiculously fun.

As firedancer said, the parade is crazy. If you had a friend with an apartment near the middle of the parade and you could stay in their porch and bbq while you watch the various bands from the various islands dance by - maybe that. BUT if you go there and attempt to walk anytime after 12pm, you will get a rough up. Every year the crowd is so thick sometimes I move without my feet touching the ground. Sometimes its worth it (like if I get awesome drinks and food and if I get to jump over the barricade into one of my favorite bands) but sometimes I am like, WTF?!?!
Oh and people of all sized in skimpy outfits will be on parade too. I know you love those.
Most of the other events include Caribbean bands from all over having "jams" where they play live music and people come and eat and drink all night. I usually leave at 7am the next day. Yeah, I am really gonna miss the action this year. If I hear of anything less action-oriented, I will let you know.

This weekend I am doing a combo of relaxing before the chaos of work starts and getting myself organized. I have a stack of papers to go through and file. I have some things that I want to get ready for the schoolyear. Plus I have to do laundry since I sorta have to look professional starting next week. (Not really, but each year I try to make some attempts at the beginning of the semester.)
The only thing that I know I have planned is that a friend is a guest tattoo artist at another friend's shop. I am pretty sure we will go and visit them both and hang out for a little bit. Not getting tattooed myself. I'm waiting for the right moment for that.
No offense to lawby (cuz she's my girl and I
her) but you couldn't pay me enough to go to the Caribbean extravaganza this weekend. No, thank you. While I love the food and costumes and festive feel, it is way too much chaos and crowd-surfing for my liking. I like to get my Caribbean fix in the actual Caribbean!
Leslie, I am jealous of your Fire Island plans. How do I get in on this for next summer? LOL, seriously.
Girl, if I wasn't from the Caribbean I wouldn't go either. It's pure madness from like 12pm. LOLOLOL

You know, as much as Im a professional shopper - I do not feel like dealing with crowds or tomfoolery during crazy holiday shopping, so I will not be partaking. We're waiting until we're in the new house to start buying, and then I plan on going off. *BTW, I've already picked out the bulk of the new furniture. LMAO
As far as plans go - right now, we actually have none! Can you imagine?!
Today/Friday: Avery and I went to visit a friend of mine in Port Washington, LI. We went to eat at a restaurant right on the water , Avery slept most of the time, and I had oysters and lobster, it was fab. DH and I might head to Williamsburg for dinner at our friend's restaurant. I'm craving it big time.
Otherwise, we are playing it by ear.
And if the weather is nice, we will be doing a nice little picnic, just the three of us in Brooklyn Bridge park.
Otherwise, nada.
Alright, so since everyone seems to recommend I don't go to the parade, I will try to find bits of it on TV. Maybe one day I will have a friend living on the parade route and can hide in her apartment. I did have that invitation once, but a West Indian friend talked me out of going - she said, are you crazy, that ain't no place for you!
BTW Lawby, I think that costume is SO beautiful!
But, that woman is also so beautiful!
DH and i are just recovering from our 2 weeks in NM with my family, taking it easy, hanging with friends and getting ready for the week ahead.
Oh, we need to go grocery shopping. So we'll do that later.
