Re: The Help
I read the book and saw the movie.
I loved the book. It's one of my favorites.
I thought the movie was a great adaption. There are some things that were glossed over for the sake of time that I missed in the movie, but I was really happy with how true to the book they stayed.

I loved loved loved the book. It was so detailed and I really got into the characters. The movie was not a dissapointment like I almost thought it was going to be. I liked how they stayed true to the book and I will def. buy it when it comes out.
I read the book but haven't seen the movie yet. My sister and I have plans to go next week. For some reason it had a late release date here and just came out in theatres last weekend.
I am always conflicted about whether I should even bother going to see the movie of books that I love. And I LOVED this book. I could not put it down.
I saw the movie. I loved the story concept.
The book in on my list to find at the library now. My step mother read it and loved it.

This. The audiobook was AMAZING. I know I would have loved the written book as well, but I am soooo glad I listened to the audiobook and experienced it that first.
I loved the movie! I cried much more in the movie than the book, which surprised me. I thought it was a fantastic adaptation.
Krissy, you should go ahead see the movie. It might inspire you to finish the book. I don't really understand why people make such a big deal about reading the book first. There are tons of books that I've been turned on to just because of the movie.
I enjoyed the book very much, but it's been a while since I've read it. I still haven't seen the movie, I'm scared I won't like it as much as the book.
I'm about halfway through with the book. I wanted to read it before I saw the movie, since I almost always think the book is better.
I did almost put the book down somewhere in the first 2 chapters where Aibileen is telling the story in her deep Southern dialect. It was hard to get through. I did end up getting really into the book and got used to her parts b/c I can hardly put the book down now. I'm thinking I'll finish it up over this long weekend.
I know the book is fiction, but some of the characters attitudes are just surprising to me. Not that I didn't know those types of attitudes existed, but I guess seeing them brought to life makes me think more about them. Take the whole bathroom and disease issue. It makes me wonder what will the next generation or two look back on and wonder how in the world did we ever think/believe something about a certain topic or group of people.
Other people have already said this, but it does get better! I was about ready to stop reading during the first 2 chapters, and I hardly ever put a book down. I thought I was crazy b/c everyone else really liked it. I think it was just getting used to Aibileen's dialect b/c I couldn't put the book down after that (even though she does tell parts of the story again, it just wasn't distracting to me anymore).
I have read the book and seen the movie.
I LOVED the book. I think it is now one of my favorites. I have read it twice already! I think the book really plays into the details better, and I thought the characters were more dynamic both in their positive and negative interactions.
I thought the movie was really good. I liked seeing the interactions and dynamic between the characters before me not just as I pictured it. I was pleasantly surprised by the movie. I don't usually enjoy movies based on books, but I thought they did a really great job. There were some powerful moments from the book that were captured well on screen. I thought seeing Skeeter walk into Aibileen's house once all of the maids were crowded into her kitchen was a great scene. I loved how they made Hilly's mother so endearing and even playing into Minny's tricks on her awful daughter. There were many other parts that I thought that translated beautifully into the movie but those are sticking out at me for the moment.
I definitely would recommend reading this book and watching the movie to anyone!
