Poll: treats at work

Is it common where you work for people to bring in treats to share?  Like, home baked things?  I just realized that maybe this is just a thing in places I've worked because it's a small community.  We do things for every birthday and then randomly in between.  But all the labs on my floor will randomly have treats - sometimes store bought, but often homemade.

Re: Poll: treats at work

  • Nopers. It's totally out of the ordinary if someone brings something from home in, but left over meeting food? That's a different story.
  • People do here every once in a while.

If I liked everyone I would do it more often :)

  • at one of my old jobs, it was probably 3 days a week we had stuff....like cheese, crackers, dip, candy, cookies....nothing healthy ever.

it depends on who you work with really. there's always one person that likes baking, and that person brings in treats....

  • Yes, all the time. One of my coworkers loves to bake, so we get her stuff all the time. Plus we get drug rep lunches every Tuesday (so yummy!), so that's always fun. And we have grateful patients that bring us treats sometimes (this one woman makes a wicked lemon curd), so that's so nice to have. :)

  • It's pretty normal in my new job and my old job. Often times if someone was travelling they'll bring home something. I assume that when anyone brings in something homemade it's because they had a party and made too much dessert ... that's when I bring in stuff.

I always wonder how the people who are trying to eat healthy/lose weight feel about this. The stuff I cook isn't out of the Paula Deen cookbook, so it's not _that_ bad for you, but it's still extra calories.

  • It's sporadic at my place. Technically, if it's your birthday, you bring in something to celebrate (instead of like people bringing in for someone else...our owner is such a scrooge). People bring in stuff when they felt like baking but didn't want all those calories at home (ie, me) or leftovers from a party, or just because. Homemade or store bought.

  • It's an every day occurence at my place of business. this week we've had cinnamon rolls 2x, brownies, these wafflethings with carmel in them, people bring fruit/veggie trays, chips, different offerings atleast once a week at the most 3x. It is PRETTY hard especially when you're trying to watch what you eat! :)

There are brownies/cinnamon rolls here now... i want to eat them sooo bad! (thinking skinny thoughts)

  • At my last office, which was large, it was a regular thing.  Donuts on fridays, cupcakes or cakes for birthdays, lots of goodies for holidays and then just random all the time...we even had bbq w/ an indoor electric grill, and people would bring chips, salad, etc.

  • I work in a school so each Wednesday (early release and staff meeting day) a different grade level or group is assigned to bring treats for the staff lounge.  The treats range from desserts (usually homemade), to chips, crackers, cheese, fruits, humus or any other munchies.  We have about 50 people on staff.  That same crew is assigned kitchen duty for the week (cleaning the staff lounge, kitchen and loading and unloading the dishwasher).  Each crew has about 5 people, one for each day.
