Those w/ dogs re:boarding

Do you board your dog when you go on a trip? We have a new puppy and need a "sitter" for a weekend the 1st of November. I want to start now looking. I feel bad, like I'm deserting him but we do go on trips throughout the year. I figured we start small and then maybe he will be okay next year when we take a longer trip.

I researched Karnik in Monclova and it appears nice. Input please?

Re: Those w/ dogs re:boarding

  • Yes we board our dogs when we take trips. I don't feel bad leaving my dogs, I hate taking them places in the car or traveling with them. I've never used Karnik. We used to board at South Suburban in Pburg when we lived in BG, it was really nice!
  • We've always used Karnik on Central to board Dakota and have never had any issues with it.

  • We have never boarded our dogs because we don't get them the kennel cough vax and they have to have that in order to board. Usually my mom/brother take care of them for us. I think next time we do a long trip we might take them somewhere though, I feel bad pawning my pups off on people.

  • I board at my vet's office, because I know everyone there.  My parents board at Green Acres Boarding Kennels in Ottawa Lake MI... lots of room to play.

Has your puppy had all of his vaccines yet?  If not, I would probably recommend finding an in-home sitter or a friend/relative to keep him.  He may not yet be immune to all the germs you'll find around other dogs.

  • We are on our last of 3 puppy visits w/ our vet. We took him immediately. But I am going to ask their thoughts on my next visit. Thanks, I didn't think about that.
  • If you are thinking about monclova you should go to Rover Come Over.  They are super nice and they have web cams on the off chance that your like me and want to check in on your doggie while on vacation.

My parents go to a new place off Central and Holland Sylvania Pups palace or something liek that and they like it.

$30 is a regular rate per day for boarding and daycare (fyi)

  • Good to know, I thought it was more expensive. I'll check them out. And yes, I'd be watching the webcam ... haha!
  • i believe that karnik, at least the one on central, has webcams as well.
