Yep, I'm now convinced I live in an episode of Wild Kingdom.
Last night a HUGE "outside" spider made it's way inside and tonight H had to remove a 5 foot snake from the walk way that is only three feet from the house! It's the first snake I've seen in our yard and it was far to close for my comfort. Re-homing the thing was quite the production.
Step 1: pin it down with a long handled broom and make sure it wasn't a Taipan.
Step 2: determine it was a python.
Step 3: pick it up and realize it was five feet long.
Step 4: throw it across the yard
Step 5: bang the ground with the broom to keep it moving away from the vibrations
Step 6: decide that it was really a tree snake. A python of that length would have been had a much larger girth.
So now I have visions of me going outside and finding Delta with a snake wrapped around her leg that I will need to remove. H assures me that if she had seen the snake, she would have barked to make us away of it's presence. He says this is one of the reasons he wanted a large dog, instead of one that was meal size. ![]()
Is it too much to ask to live in a real city? The "city" that is closest to us still has pythons and taipans to worry about. I am so not cut out for this.
Re: Wild Kingdom
Eww! I couldn't live in OZ. Too much wildlife for me - I'm deathly afraid of snakes and big spiders. You've got some cajones, aMrs!
What's a taipan? I'm too afraid to google.
First, I should have made it clear the DH did the re-homing of the snake. I was safely up on the veranda "supervising" the process.
I do not have cajones. I am a totally wussy, prissy city gal. Xanax was my BFF when we first moved here so I could get to sleep without freaking out and worrying about big spiders crawling over me. I am stuck out here until the housing market picks up and we can sell this place (right now we would just break even)
A Taipan has the most toxic venom and is the worlds deadliest land snake.
Yuck! What a day!
Our Lucy is hardly such the snake-hunter (she's like 40lb/18kilos)-- a snake was in our house (awesome) right by her food bowl and she did a whole lot of nothing. Well, that's not fair, she fled upstairs w/ me while H sorted it out.
Yeah, I sound woefully girly-girly. I'm not. I just don't do creepies or crawlies!
I'd have to have a gun near me at all times if I were in your position. I cannot be around snakes without having a panic attack. I guess that makes me a wussy, prissy city girl too!
For the record, I can't be around centipedes, millipedes, roaches or slugs without screaming like a girl.
So, what I'm hearing is that none of you are coming to visit me anytime soon? Dang.
Can I come visit you all instead?
I just confirmed this with H. They do not have snakes because it is too cold. So, basically a bonus, no snakes AND no surface of the sun type heat. Unfortunately he also says there are no jobs there either. Boo.
