Weekend getaways

My husband and I are in desperate need of a little weekend getaway.  I was thinking of maybe a resort in the mountains, somewhere 1-2 hours away from Boston.  Any suggestions?

 Thanks!

Re: Weekend getaways

  • North Conway NH area (White Mountains) is great, but it is about 3 hours out of Boston.  There is a ton do and see though!  There are adorable b&bs and larger hotels as well.  DH and I usually go every year!
  • Try the Berkshires - Lee, Lenox, Stockbridge, etc. There's shops, museums (both the historic house types- Herman Melville, Edith Wharton, Daniel Chester French - and art - the Clark and the Norman Rockwell), Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow, and outlets.  There's also Deerfield, where the Yankee Candle mother ship lives, and the Mohawk Trail, which has a really nice state park.
  • I love Lenox, Stockbridge etc. Such a beautiful area! We just went out to Tanglewood a few weekends ago.

SO and I just got back from a few days in P-town. We took the 90 minute ferry down and had an amazing, relaxing time. I know it's the opposite of the mountains, but it was fantastic.

Enjoyed dinner at Ross's Grill and had a few nice meals at the new Beer Garden.

  • we go to north conway since its onloy 2 hrs from us. in fact, we got engaged on one of those trips lol

  • We got engaged on a North Conway trip too!  I like Jackson (about 15 minutes North of North Conway to stay).  There are three very cute inns there-  Inn at Thorn Hill, Wentworth Inn, and Christmas Farm Inn.  They have really good restaurants and two of them have spas.  It's out of the hustle and bustle of north conway but close enough to get there easily.
  • I would also mention going to Maine (Portland or Ogunquit).  It's not in the mountains (on the ocean) but both are beautiful and have great restaurants, shopping, etc.
  • Thanks for the recommendations, ladies!  My hubby and I just moved to Boston in July and it has been a couple of stressful months, so I really want to plan a time when we can just relax.  These are great suggestions!

I was wondering if anyone has stayed here: http://www.omnihotels.com/FindAHotel/BrettonWoodsMountWashington.aspx

     It looks pretty amazing!

     Thanks again!

It is such a beautiful hotel!  We have not stayed there, but I have gone there for cocktails on several occasions.

  • I stayed at the Mt. Washington last November. It was a beautiful old hotel and the facilities are lovely. I would suggest finding somewhere else to eat. The "fine dining" meal we had there was average at best and it was expensive! The pub was fine. We loved having a cocktail in the main lobby and sitting at one of the game tables and playing scrabble.

SO did a zipline tour (I was there for a conference so I did not get to enjoy to much of the extras...)

  • we just had our honeymoon in Bar harbor/Camden ME. close and beautiful
