Moving suggestions?

Does anyone have experience with small moving companies? I am going from Manhattan to BK at the end of the month. My big problem is that I need to leave my current place on 9/30 and can't move in to my new apt until 10/1. Of all of the apts I've lived in, I have never been in this situation. Has anyone dealt with this before? One mover suggested finding someone who would move and store my things overnight, but he said that is usually expensive. Thanks for any ideas you might have!

Re: Moving suggestions?

  • it IS really expensive to do that.  another option is to rent a pod, and hire people to pack and unpack it for you.

  • I've had that situation before. I was able to work something out with the new tenants of my old apartment, the old tenants of my new apartment, and my landlords. Ultimately, I was able to move some of my things in a day early of my new lease and move the majority of my stuff on the first of the month when my new lease started. I would call and ask if something like that could be arranged.
  • I would imagine that this is very expensive.  However, when I moved I used Movers Not Shakers (twice actually) and always got great prices and service from them.  Call them and then price compare.  I bet they'll give you the best quote and that quote doesn't change unless you forgot to mention something big.

  • Thanks! I'm going to call Movers not Shakers and see if my new apt can work with me!
