emissions inspection help -VA people

Since this only happens every 2 years, I always forget what I need, and now it's especially confusing since my registration is up in Aug but my inspection is done in January for the last car I bought.

What do I need to prove they did the emissions inspection on the car?

I have a very small pink receipt from the dealer who did the inspection and it has emissions controls checked off.  Is that what I need to give them?

Re: emissions inspection help -VA people

  • You shouldn't need to give them anything because VA does it all electronically, but the receipt they give you is a white 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper when you pass.  The pink thing is just the inspections/ service order thing.

  • Ditto PP.  My emissions is due in Sept and my inspection in May.  DH got my car emissions tested last weekend.  Within a couple hours I was able to go online and pay for my registration because it had all been entered electronically.

thanks - maybe I will try tomorrow.

  • I always just paid at the shop that performed the inspections. the safety inspection is tied to the sticker on the car which i've been forgetting to do for the past few years while emissions is associated with the license plates so you get a letter when you are up for emissions. you just show the person doing the inspection the form you get in the mail and they will set you up. i don't really know the process if you are moving to the state as i've always been a resident of no. virginia.
