Project Runway 9/1

Some bullets for discussion.

  1. Thank goodness everyone kissed and made up.
  2. How do these designers have such a hard time defining "avant garde?"
  3. Anya finally sewed her own garment!
  4. Did anyone else catch Joshua M wearing sock garters? Indifferent Plus, his way of talking is starting to annoy me.
  5. Why did the judges not mention that Olivier's design had a slit up to the model's waist and clearly showed the string of her undies?
  6. I'm questioning Heidi's taste level with her praise for Bert's garment. It was fug. Where to even begin with my hatred for it?
  7. Olivier is getting really Debbie Downer.
Am I forgetting anything?

Re: Project Runway 9/1

  • I think you got it all...   Whenever Bert's came down the runway I was pretty sure Heidi would love it.  I am convinced the more I hate it the more she wants to wear it.

I'm sure Oliver is a very nice person but he bothers me for some reason.  I can't put my finger on why but he just bugs me.

Is anyone else bothered by how many team challenges there have been so far?  I don't remember this many by this point in the season.  Maybe I am wrong though.

  • I hated Josh M.'s creation and the fact that the judges loved it had me nervous that it would win... the tree thing with the crazy orange top. Ick.

I'm happy with the winner, though.

I was dreaming it would be a repeat of the season they did avant garde wear and then at the last minute Tim Gunn told the designers they needed to make a ready to wear to go with it! I miss those days.

  • I was really disappointed in their ideas for avante garde.

I could see why Heidi liked Bert's, and honestly, if he had done something super weird (instead of making baby toys and sticking them on), like making a hat using the shapes or using the colors in some odd collar type detail, it would have been the only example of avante garde there.  I didn't like it, but he had the start of something avant garde.

I really loved the winning dress.   I kind of liked the burning tree outfit too.  Not to wear, but it was an interesting interpretation.

I loved the artwork and the kids.  That 12 year old girl was hilarious.  I found that I liked the artwork of the younger artists more than what the older ones came up with.

  • Olivier probably annoys you because he speaks with an obnoxiously fake accent. If you've lived in Columbus, Ohio from age 0 to 16 and you're only 22, there is no way you'd have that much of a foreign accent after living wherever else for 6 years. It's just not humanly possible.

He slipped from fake English accent into faux French accent halfway through one of his personal interviews last night!

Am I the only one that expected Josh M and Josh C to admit their feelings for each other by now?  Now I have to wait for the reunion show.

    lol

I remember Josh M saying that they had a special connection before Josh C got kicked off the first time.  Remember, Josh C. is looking for the right woman to marry and have a family with....apparently he is the only person on Earth who doesn't realize that he is gay. ;)

  • I really liked the winning look too.

I read an online review last week that described Josh M as "the gay Ryan Reynolds" and now I think about it everytime they show him on camera!  And, there's something about old, grumpy Bert that I absolutely adore.

  • I laughed my butt off when Josh M said he didn't do natural and only liked fake things with a "Duh!" look on his face.

I actually liked Becky's cubes on the shoulder.  It turned out so much better than I thought it would.

I wish Josh C would have made a huge fur train/tail.  He might have still gone home, but it would have been awesome.

I thought Laura's outfit was ugly.  Maybe it was the color, I'm not sure.  I was surprised to see how much they liked it.

Olivier's was terrible.  I thought he was a good contender for getting the boot.  I don't think he'll make it to the end.

I'm not sure most of them knows what avant garde is.  I thought the judges would be ripping on the lack of it, but they didn't.  It was kind of an underwhelming episode.

  • I wish April from last season had been here to take over Josh C's spot. She would have made something cool from that inspiration painting.

I was underwhelmed by the rest of the episode. I really want Olivier to go home. Bert annoys the crap out of me and I hate his garments. His model looked like she had enough space to smuggle a baby elephant in her pants.

  • I liked Bert's outfit because he really went for it and embraced the challenge of "avant garde" way more than most of the rest. I didn't think he had the winner, but I didn't think he was bottom three.

I think Kimberly should have won. And Olivier should have gone home.

  • This episode was kind of boring to me and I thought it would be much better.  Also, I agree with PP's.  Why is there going to be another group challenge.  I wish they would stick with more individual.

  • I thought Laura's outfit was the least avant garde and yet she got praised for it.

Bert's - while totally fug - was more avant garde since it pushed boundaries. It was an ugly garment but it successfully addressed the challenge (again, which Laura's did not). And at least the shapes were sewn on vs a glued arts and crafts project (I'm talking to you Anthony). I'm glad he was portrayed as less b!tchy than last week - but I've still fallen off the Bert bandwagon.

I thought Becky did a good job and was glad to see her safe. Kimberly as well. I have her winning the whole thing.

Josh's tree worked out well. I had his pegged as the winning look.

Olivier (sidenote - why is his name pronounced Oliver even though there is the extra "i"? just curious) I don't care for and again, didn't think his garment was avant garde at all. And was slit so far up the side to make it inappropriate, yet he didn't get called out for that.

The other Josh. Eh, I don't know. Maybe he should have stuck with the fur...

  • I woke my husband up, screaming that they kicked Josh C off again. I LOVE that guy. This season is really disappointing to me.

I'm curious what you love about him? He seems like a fun personality, but he hasn't made a single decent outfit.

  • I just finished watching.  I don't understand the judges this season. They are all over the place with their opinions.  You overstyled, you understyled. This isn't avant guard but that is, yet one is more everyday than the next.

Also has there ever  been a time when a person who won the previous week and had immunity win the following week.  For example, Josh M.  I liked his design so much better and I was wondering if he would have won if he didn't have immunity.

Oh and did anyone catch Olivier saying that he listens to depressing music while he works?  That could explain his aesthetic.

His "accent" drives me crazy!  Everytime Oliver speaks all I can think of is him...

    lol.

    Malan's sister is/was a nestie.

My business partner's daughter was asked to model at a show at fashion week, and it turned out to be Malan's show, the year he was 'aufed'.  The dress she wore in the show wasn't completed and was full of straight pins.

It's totally his personality. I wouldn't want him to win, but I want him on the show for awhile longer just for the entertainment.
