Adam has some brake and timing belt issues (as diagnosed by Tuffy). Tuffy quoted $1600 for the job, which Adam's dad felt was ridiculous. He thought we could get the same work done back in CL for 1/2 the cost (labor is generally cheaper in smaller towns). I do think that Tuffy is overpriced for most things, so no surprise they would be here as well. I imagine that most major chain shops are going to be expensive b/c they have the overhead of a fancier shop, advertising etc.
We'd like to find a little lesser-known, privately owned shop w/ something trustworthy to do the work. That way we can hopefully save and also support a small business man (or woman). Any suggestions? Otherwise we will probably drive the car back to CL for the repairs, b/c the gas is def worth saving $500+ in repairs. Just would be much more convenient to do it here obviously.
Re: Local car repair shop rec?
My husband is the general manager of a shop called United Fleet on 2nd ave, not to far from the hospital. His name is Dave, 515-288-8464. They "do it all" My opinion is obviously biased but he'll take good care of you.
We take all our cars to Vanderlinden in Indianola, my dad went to high school with him, and I'm friends with both his daughters. He's fare and won't rake you over the coals.
